📢 New Group Options for Over 35s

We know autism and/or hidden disability doesn't end after 35, and after increasing amounts of requests, we have now opened social group and group trip options for over 35's!

This group opens a chance to get out in the community and connect with like-minded folks in a similar age group.

Upcoming Over 35s activities include night markets, a visit to the art gallery of NSW and our first international trip to New Zealand's South Island this November. And more to come!

Traveling in a group offers neurodivergent individuals vital opportunities to build social connections and develop life skills. Our recent trip to Orlando highlighted the benefits of these experiences.

Over 12 days travelling together, the group had plenty of time for practicing communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.

They forged a unique bond and are still in touch, they're in fact having a virtual catch up in the coming days!!! 😍🫂

Over the weekend Travengers founder Agnes won the Diversity Award! 💫

"Diversity is a great part of my mission and vision, and being recognised for it, and given the ability to speak about it means a lot.

I truly believe diversity is the source of innovation and solutions driving us forward. So stay open minded, welcome differences in the work place, keep listening and learning (as will I), and see magic happen.

Thank you so much for the encouragement and support! 🙏🏼"

Introducing our new Customer Service Officer Shannen (to the left)! 🤗

Shannen loves the outdoors and has an aptitude for helping others. While studying to become a paramedic, Shannen was unfortunately struck by a motor vehicle, leaving her unable to meet the physical requirements to become a paramedic.

She then became an NDIS participant and noticed many gaps within the system. Shannen then obtained a job within the NDIS Commission to help make a real change.

During her time at the NDIS Commission, she received 3 Above and Beyond awards for making positive impacts within the department.

We’re stoked to have Shannen with her compassionate energy in the team. ✨

Give her a warm welcome! 🤗

This weekend we went to the national Small Business Champion Awards night, and we were so stoked hearing we won in the Tourism category!!

From the get go, we’ve wanted for Travengers to have a ripple-effect of awareness and understanding.

So taking home the award in the mainstream tourism category is huge.

Building a business takes a lot of hard work and dedication and we’re super proud of the recognition, and the impact we’ve been able to make so far in many lives. Thanks to our fab team! Together we continue to learn and work on our mission.

What a special night 😍💛

Happy World Autism Acceptance Day! 🌻♾️🌈

It’s a big day with different opinions.
Do we focus on awareness? Understanding? Acceptance? What is actually needed? Do we still need this day?

Some thoughts:

Awareness = knowing that autistic people exist and can be vastly different. It’s not a case of either ‘high functioning or low functioning’. It’s a spectrum, but not a linear one.

Understanding = People educating themselves to get an understanding of what it means to be autistic, what it can possibly feel like. To learn about some of the challenges still faced, and what one can do to change that. And to equally learn about each person’s strenghts.

Acceptance = Appreciating and celebrating autistic people and diversity, that everyone is worthy no matter their strengths and challenges, or their lack of.

And looking for ways to solve problems together.
Just imagine where the world would be if we didn’t have diverse brains? 🙅🏽‍♀️

Today has been a great day to have those discussions, and so is any other day.
There is still a lot of awareness, understanding and acceptance needed for autistic people to have access to the same opportunities as allistic people have.

We often hear that people just want to be accepted for who they are!

What does World Autism Acceptance/Understanding Day mean for you? ♾️

Are you a parent or carer in our community?

At our latest birthday celebration we had a parent/carer meetup next door, and we were asked if we could do this again!

So this Friday you can join our first official carer’s Friday night dinner!

At the same time as our Friday night dinner for our young adult groups, there will be a separate area of the venue for carers to meet, connect, have some food and share experiences and resources with other carers.

If the interest is there we’ll do this once a quarter. We’d love to hear from you if this would be helpful or what you’d like to see 🙌🏼

Where: Bavarian, Manly Wharf, Sydney
When: Friday 15th March, 7pm

This is a free and non guided event - just order your own food there and enjoy! 🥨

For parents: can you spare a moment to participate in this study?
«What is important when schools are preparing autistic students for transition to post-school life».

Read more below!

New Questionnaire Study for Australian Parents of Autistic Secondary School Students and Autistic Young Adults:
Can you tell us about what is important when schools are preparing autistic students for transition to post-school life? https://griffithuw.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_b1kbGnC8QNgJrXE.

Who can participate?
We are inviting: (1) parents of autistic students currently in secondary school in Australia, and (2) parents of autistic young adults who have already finished school in Australia, to share their thoughts on the skills, activities, and supports they believe are most important when schools are preparing autistic students for transitioning from school to post-school life.

What will it involve?
You will be invited to complete an online questionnaire, which will take approximately 30-40 minutes.

How do I participate?

About us

Travengers AU is a travel service connecting young people with social support needs across Australia to travel. We arrange trips including backpacking, concerts, road trips, theme parks, adventures, weekends or longer trips, and match you with young Support Workers. We’re here for the ones who want to become more independent and enjoy life! (15-35’s). What we do: - We have a chat with you to find out more about you - Create and book your ideal trip, individual or small groups - Match you with likeminded travellers and Support Workers - Manage your trip from start to end - Work for awareness and acceptance of hidden disabilities Travengers was inspired by Agnes having a young sister with autism, and meeting several others in similar situations through a decade working and studying in the Disability sector. Agnes graduated as a Disability nurse in Norway in 2014, and has since then been passionate about creating good quality of life for young adults with different abilities. Many young people with support needs fall “in between” We’re highly passionate about inclusion, independence, and good quality of life. Through travelling, Travengers aim to inspire and empower youth and young adults, teach useful skills, and make life long memories. Because what do most young people have in common? We want to have friends, be independent, and - travel. Travengers is based in Sydney, Northern Beaches, but have networks across Australia and are more than happy to discuss your needs across states. For self- and plan managed NDIS participants and others.
