WINNERS AGAIN!

Mudgee has been named the 2021 NSW Top Tourism Town in the category of towns with a population over 5000.

Mudgee claimed the top gong against 15 other towns in the awards presented by Business NSW today.

The Awards showcase the value of tourism to the towns and communities across NSW and celebrate their commitment to encouraging tourism and increasing visitation to their destination.

Mayor of Mid-Western Regional Council, Des Kennedy said the announcement was a fantastic outcome for Mudgee and the wider region.

“I’d like to recognise the efforts of Mudgee Region Tourism and the brilliant job they do in marketing our region,” Cr Kennedy said.

“Thanks to our excellent tourism operators for delivering such high quality services and to the community for welcoming and embracing visitors as we experience this visitor boom.

“The tourism industry is essential to our local economy, delivering $157.6 million annually.

“Council recognises this value, which is why we work hard to deliver and attract major events like Flavours of Mudgee and NRL fixtures, and deliver infrastructure which supports tourism and other key sectors in our local economy.

“So far this year, Council has hosted the Charity Shield, generating $1.49 million for the local economy and the NRL Round 6: Manly v Titans, generating $1.3 million. We continue to work closely with major events like the Mudgee Classic and Next Exit Festival to ensure our region is an enticing destination for event coordinators.”

Mudgee (winner population over 5000) and Berrima (winner population less than 5000) will now represent NSW at the inaugural Australian Top Tourism Town Awards at Parliament House in Canberra on Wednesday, 25 August.
