EXPLORE!

You never know what you might discover on the farm, surrounded by nature. Just last week, we were lucky enough to witness more than 10 ducklings embarking on their first adventure! 🦆 The mountain ducks nest high up in the Karri Trees, safe from predators, and we watched as they left the nest, flying (or falling) over 20m to the ground. Mum and Dad were there, keeping the little ones close as they made the 1km journey across the paddocks, using the peppermint trees as protection, toward the swamp and then to the dam. All the while, the brave parents defended their newborns from crows looking for an easy meal.

Next time you're driving up our driveway, look to the right and you might spot the ducklings swimming in the dam! 🌿

I think this might be my favorite time of year here in Scott River! Do I say that every season?! Flowers are emerging, nature is beautifully green, the river is bursting, and we're still snuggling up in front of the wood fire. 🙌 It’s the perfect time for a relaxing off-grid stay to explore the property.

Hello Wonderful Folks!

It's high time we properly introduced ourselves! We’re Keryn and Alistair McIlroy, proud owners of Little House Republic! We are lucky enough to call the property that LHR is located on, home. It is here, with our 3 children, that we run a regenerative cattle farm and are so excited to now incorporate this new enterprise into our journey.

A bit about us…
Keryn's roots run deep on the property, having been born and raised amidst its breathtaking beauty. Al hails from a farm in Esperance, and fate brought us together during our boarding school days. Together, we embarked on numerous backpacking adventures around the globe before finding our home in the South West. After a decade in Margaret River, owning and operating our own business and raising our three babies, we embarked on an incredible journey around Australia. Five years ago, we felt a strong pull to return to Scott River, yearning to give our kids the same idyllic upbringing we cherished. Our love for the land and sea here fuels our commitment to preserving its natural splendour. Passionate advocates for sustainable tourism, we're thrilled to invite you all to experience the magic of this place with us.

Keryn finds her bliss in nature walks across our beautiful property, where she's often captivated by the abundance of orchids in season. Her passion for gardening extends to our veggie patch, where she delights in cooking and preserving fresh produce. Meanwhile, Al's heart lies in farming, complemented by his love of being a musician, avid surfer and cricketer. With a knack for fixing things - he’s also a qualified mechanic! Together, we're a dynamic duo ready to share our love for the land and all its wonders with you.

We're excited to announce that we are the new owners of Little House Republic, a project initially brought to life by Tracey Hodgkins and Tess Slot. From the outset, we've been right there alongside them, sharing their vision for a regenerative and sustainable tourism venture here in Scott River. We're deeply passionate about the project they've cultivated, and we're thrilled to continue their legacy of a truly regenerative tourism brand that resonates with conscientious travellers like you. We find joy in connecting and collaborating with local artisans and producers, and infusing our own unique touch into the fabric of LHR.
