The GRR is open as of last Sunday 12th May. This is the bible of the Gibb River Road produced locally, by locals with up to date, correct information. Now is the time to see the Kimberley.

We get asked A LOT about the Gibb River Road here at Kununurra Visitor Centre, our friends at Broome Visitor Centre and Derby Visitor Centre do too.

So, we have put together the G.O.A.T. Gibb River Road information book that will help you with almost anything and everything you need to know when you are dreaming, planning and doing The Gibb!

This is a digital book and you can download and print or you can check it out on our website.

Western Qld is awash with flood waters - it’s a big wet everywhere across Australia

Deep in the heart of the Queensland outback, in certified organic cattle fattening country, the town of Bedourie stands as a testament to the resilience of rural communities. Bedourie is located in the Channel Country of Central West Queensland, Australia, lying on Eyre Creek. When the Channel Country floods, the town can be cut off by road for months at a time. Central to its survival is a bore tapping into the Great Artesian Basin—a source of life in the desert wilderness.

The Bedourie town water supply system comprises an intricate network, featuring an artesian bore, ground level, and elevated water storage reservoirs, and a reticulation system. This system has been a lifeline for the town since its inception. The bore, drilled in 1905, boasts remarkable statistics: a water temperature of 45 degrees Celsius, a closed head pressure of 529 kPa, and an unrestricted flow of 42 litres per second. The reservoirs and reticulation system, constructed in 1998, further enhance the efficiency and reliability of water distribution in Bedourie.

The Great Artesian Basin is the largest and deepest artesian basin in the world. The basin is the primary source of fresh water for many inland areas in Australia, stretching over 1,700,000 square kilometers.

In Bedourie, water from this bore is now used to supply warm, crystal-clear water to the nearby Bedourie Artesian Spa. When visiting, you are invited to sit back and relax in the warm natural waters, which are known to relieve tension and aches.

Bedourie was a major watering and rest stop in the 1880's for drovers moving cattle from the Northern Territory and northwest Queensland to the customs collection point in Birdsville, 200 kilometres to the south. As we reflect on Bedourie’s history, let us not forget the silent sentinel beneath our feet—the bore that taps into the vast reservoir of the Great Artesian Basin, sustaining life and prosperity in the outback.

Lake level update.
This morning we have reached 4 meters over the spillway wall ans still rising.
So since the 24th of January the lake has risen 4 meters with an inflow of around 4070 gigalitres of water and waterfalls flowing quite nicely, the Lake is looking great!
The surface area of the Lake is now around 1200 sq/km
Once the road opens it will be the ideal time to come and explore.
I will update as levels change.
