Noosa Botanical Gardens is just outside Cooroy on the edge of Lake MacDonald, very close to the cottages. It's dog friendly, and beautiful, we walk Jessie there often, but only recently discovered this jetty just around the corner. It sits close to the dam wall, and faces straight down the lake, or, if you face the other way, looks across the lake to Cooroy Mountain. Next time I am taking coffee or champagne with me!!

How's this for a mirror image?! The water was just like glass, taken in noosa waters this morning (so not as pretty a backdrop as our dam). But happy to report he (or she) had a successful morning cruising around the edges of the canal fishing.....

We are proud of this award from booking.com, it means our guests love Magnolia Cottage (almost!) as much as us! The hinterland is beautiful at the moment, lots of tropical plants in flower and the dams are full, it's a great spot to get away from it all, and we are pet friendly too.....

"Normal" river birds vs "holiday" river birds - both made me smile! The giant flamingo may have startled other wildlife, but was safely anchored....yes, it's that big!

"What's that?" thought the roo over by the dam. "That" is our horse rolling in the dust, followed by a good shake. I know chickens love a dust bath, didn't realise horses do too!! Both the roos and the horse live at Verrierdale, just behind Coolum beach, a lovely country drive from the Cottage....

How's this for a Christmas tree?! Look carefully and you'll see the branches have been carefully adorned with Christmas decorations. It's on the corner of Eumundi Range Road and Sunrise Road, and makes me smile every time I drive past it, so thank you!!

Spring rain, and the hinterland is lush again. Our border collie, Jessie, entertained herself watching the birds and dragonflies flitting around the dam, she didn't notice our resident water dragon who was sitting just behind....

Who's watching who? The seagull watched the stingray slowly pass by, as did the school of fish outside The Boathouse on the Noosa River. The next day we visited the Cooroora woodworkers show in Cooroy, and what did we find? More stingrays! These were created by Kevin Dick of Kellick Marine Concepts.....

If you look carefully you'll see why this chair was vacated very quickly this afternoon! This gorgeous water dragon sat very quietly, watching our (ball obsessed it has to be said!) border collie, who had no idea he or she was there, and patiently chose the perfect time to exit.....

The Cooroy Mountain Spring Festival is next weekend (18th August). It's the only day of the year when you can climb Mt Cooroy, at 438m high it dominates the Noosa Hinterland. These are some of my photos from last year, it's well worth the effort. See more info at www.cooroyrotary.org.au

There are a lot of dog friendly cafes and restaurants around us, but this is the first time I have seen a Dog Menu! Land & Sea Brewery, Noosaville, is a great spot for a beer, with or without your dog.... https://www.facebook.com/landandseabrewery/

Oh I want one of these!! (It's a Llama) Two actually, they are herd animals. These beautiful creatures were at the Nambour Show Day, and yes, they really were groomed with a vacuum cleaner just prior to the Grand Parade. They belong to Ottaba Llamas, or see www.llamawalks.com.au.

This tree is a Golden Penda. I used to think it was ugly until it burst into the most beautiful bloom, and then attracted so many birds. These entertain us the most, they squabble and squawk and sometimes seem to just sit and contemplate life.....

Lest We Forget. The ANZAC day march in Cooroy. It's such a genuine country town, and so was the march; bagpipes, horses, veterans and vintage cars and jeeps, families and dogs lining the main street and spectators clapping and calling out to marchers....

A wet Easter on the Sunshine Coast, and our daughter's horse needed daily medication (a minor ailment and she is OK!). She's a short drive away, we waded through mud in boots and rain jackets armed with syringes, but her reaction to the taste of the medicine guaranteed a smile every time......

Today was gardening day, no excuses. And look what we found! I was cutting dead plants around the edge of the dam when I saw a flash of green, at first I thought it was new growth, but it was a tiny green frog! That's my hand behind it. The last photo shows it in it's habitat, hard to spot, and even harder to photograph. The next photo is a beautiful bromeliad (I think!) unlike the others, the flowers are short lived so I always feel lucky to see one in bloom. The white flower is a ginger plant, the third species we have found in the garden, fading but still lovely. The beauty of the hinterland still surprises me.....

We call this the Noosa River bird tree! I stopped counting at 40 of these birds yesterday. They seem to rest in the shade of this magnificent tree in the morning. They make a sort of low level humming noise, if you are walking along Gympie Terrace and hear it, look up and you will be amazed! One of our favourite dog friendly coffee spots is close by too, U-drive, maybe the birds enjoy the view too.....

Rain at last for the Sunshine Coast! Whilst we were cleaning gutters beforehand I was lucky to capture an industrious insect hard at work, the garden is full of colour, butterflies, dragonflies and birds. Come and see for yourself how beautiful the Noosa hinterland really is!

Looking for the perfect sunset and the perfect freshwater lake? We took the "beach basher" over to Fraser Island and swam in Lake McKenzie, it was magic! From Cooroy the easiest options for day trips are to head up the highway to Rainbow Beach and get the ferry across to Fraser, or catch the punt from Tewantin to the North Shore and 4WD up to Rainbow. Or you can book a guided tour from Noosa. Either way you won't be disappointed but do research tides, permits etc.

Beautiful or scary? I say beautiful. He (or she) lives in our garden, what amazing camouflage!

It's not often that I pull over to take a photo of a tree, but this magnificent example is on Noosa Parade. It's not alone, there are a lot of beautiful flowering trees throughout Noosa and the hinterland. Come and see for yourself!

Feeling peckish? Then try the one kilo doughnut challenge at the Kenilworth Bakery! Yes, one kilo. The plates on the walls have messages written by those hardy souls who completed the challenge. Worth the drive alone, but add the fabulous West N Colour shop (next door), a genuine country town and glorious views along the way, it's a great Sunday afternoon drive....

This is Rainbow Beach, home of the coloured sands, the carlo sand blow and ferry access to Fraser Island. It's about an hour and half by road from Cooroy, quicker if you catch the punt to the Noosa North Shore and 4WD up (check tides and permits). Lots of shady spots for a dog friendly picnic or fish & chips with a magnificent view, and a surf club (and patrolled beach) for families.
