The world was a simpler place when this photo was taken (roughly 365 days ago). Looking out into the sunrise, waiting for a boat to take you to the Greek Islands. Imagine getting on one of these bad boys right about now 🏖

What a gorgeous little place we stumbled upon purely through the avoidance of expensive accomodation in the Cinque Terre region. You can read all about it in the blog I’ve just linked in our bio. Not to be confused with Genovia, the fictional European land of which Anne Hathaway is the princess đŸ‘žđŸŒ

If you caught our last post, this was the “real lake” I was referring to. Cooped up in iso, I often thought about this day. How it was just the right amount of difficulty. Leisurely mainly, but with the occasional test. How there was so many beautiful things to see along the way. All the watering holes, mountain sides, and the hundreds of free-roaming cows. How I’d never blame Blake for dragging me on an adventure through the wilderness again when it got too hard. How I was always happy I did it in the end. I really do hope that once the rona is on her way, we all take this life for everything it’s worth ✹

Never again will we take for granted hiking all day amidst beautiful scenes like this one here. Excited to get back out into nature. Even the thought of going to the shops gets me aroused. 4 days left out of 54 in strict quarantine 🌿

This gorgeous hillside hostería was the least you could ever spend on a secluded, quaint, romantic getaway. We felt like the only two people on Earth. And that could largely be due to the fact that we were the only two people staying there. I can’t answer why this place isn’t completely booked out all the time. You get to pat the resident llama and lamb, access to a huge whirlpool bath, and a farm style breakfast cooked for you every morning. The family that run it spoiled us with warm and welcoming service. So, what I can answer is whether you should go - and I couldn’t recommend it more ✹

A translation for Laguna Cuicocha would be Guinea Pig lake. They really do love their Guinea Pigs in this part of the world. And their stunning lakes. It’s an interesting concept hiking around a lake. You don’t get that stunning reveal at the end, but you do get a stunning view the entire time. Might not look hard, but at 3200m above sea level, this one tested us đŸ„Ÿ

"Once that was behind us, the three of us finally got to go and see the simultaneously beautiful and backstabbing Barcelona".

As a 19-year-old on a 36-day Contiki tour, Barcelona was the absolute t**s. The epitome of fun on a European getaway. I think back to our entire tour group walking the streets singing “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie”, followed by the notorious “Oi, Oi, Oi” and die a little bit inside. Bless us, we w...

A pretty impressive rock there in the background. And it’s not often you can say that about rocks. In fact, this rock is so impressive that the two surrounding towns have an age old dispute over who gets to claim it. However, Guatape may have had the last laugh by vandalising it with a G and an incomplete U (that looks more like an I). The incompletion was of course because El Peñol, the rival town, rallied a mob to stop it before they could even finish the second letter. Also, there’s no rock emoji. Because normally people don’t care about rocks đŸ—»

Another share! Thanks Ω ΧαΌός - Oh Hamos! If you haven’t heard about Milos, then fix your mistakes now.

Translation of their message:

“How beautiful in these difficult days we are going through everyone is sending us articles written about us and our island by our customers in the summer!!!!! It's very special in these difficult days for a customer to simply remember our island and ‘Ω! ΧΑΜΟΣ!’”.

The least touristy of all the Greek islands we’ve visited, Milos is an undiscovered and unexploited treasure. I hope I can say the same in fifteen years, but I doubt it. Slightly more upper-class than others, the island remains to be a gem enjoyed mostly by locals, but open to the few tourists who...

Here we present to you the tallest palm trees in the world. The four hour hike fresh off the flu was rough but worth it. (Nobody be alarmed, this was pre-Corona). At times - when we were higher than any tree and had clouds in our noses - I wondered how the trail could possibly still be progressing vertically. Only to go straight back down to near the start. You basically climb up and down a big ol’ hill when you could have just seen it from the get go. But you know what they say, you don’t deserve the view unless you worked for it. If you choose to put yourself through the pain, make sure you do the hike anti-clockwise. That way you finish with the trees and not that big ass hill. You can’t tell, but an old man is in the background of this picture threatening us with the police. Drones really p**s people off, but maybe not if they saw the results. If there’s no sign, that bad boy be flyin 🛾

Day 23 of lockdown. In a country with double the population of Australia, but less than half the cases. Alcohol has been banned again. Something about it weakening your immune system. Men and women are only allowed out on alternate days. Saturday’s are for the girls btw. Knew it. And Sundays are for absolutely no one. Finally got a flight home. 8th of April, baby. Two weeks of quarantine await us in Victoria, the state in which we land. Followed by an additional two weeks at home. I think that by the end of all this we will be up there with the most quarantined individuals on Earth. Anyway, this is a nice waterfall 🏞

Northern Colombia. Where crystal clear waters meet the jungle. Where palm trees surround you basically always. Where you can party any night of the week. Where you can’t catch a warm shower. Where you’ll eat way too many empanadas. Where you’ll meet absolute legends. Where you want to be 🌮

Read here about the weird and wonderful experience that is La Tomatina Festival through Stoke Travel 🍅

Nestled on the southeast coast of Spain, Valencia — lovely as it might be — is only a big-ticket location during one time of year. When the tomatoes are at their ripest. Not because they do a good bolognese or anything. The tomatoes I speak of are not for eating. In fact, you won’t be eating t...

Took a night off from the hostel life to bring in Blake’s 24th birthday in the most boujee kind of way. (Before immediately returning to the lifestyle for some wild vibes that night). This two storey eco-hut was everything and more. And we got the full eco experience since the power was out for about 80% of our stay. Blake was pretty lucky having his birthday land in Minca. Renowned for its coffee, it’s cocoa, it’s waterfalls, and of course, it’s views. We rented a motorbike and rode way up into Minca’s mountains where we simultaneously enjoyed the view of mountain ranges, the jungle, and the beach for a gorgeous sunset. I made that sound easy though. The trail to Los Piños isn’t for those with soft spines 🏍

Some light isolation reading for ya’ll 💖

That answer put simply — yes, do it. You’ve heard of fusion cuisines and restaurants, but have you heard of fusion cities? Probably not, because I just made that up. But if that were a thing, Granada would be the Spain-Morocco representative. This is what that looks like... Tapas are enjoyed on ...

The best hikes are those where the journey is as beautiful as the destination. Which kind of reminds me of life. Sometimes the process is the most fulfilling part. Sometimes the worst situations lead to something beautiful. And the good times wouldn’t be so sweet without the bad. Looking forward to those sweet times, but trying to find the opportunities in crisis 💭

Today might not feel like the best time to be a travel page or to follow a travel page. International adventures are looking to be next year’s dream. But whether it be tomorrow or in five years, seeing the world is an excellent dream to have. There are few other ways to truly appreciate people, culture, food, scenery, and plain old fun to the same degree. However, we see this virus as a message from Mother Earth. She needs a moment to breathe and rejuvenate before we set out to get to know her more. After everything she’s done, we all owe her that much. Being stuck in isolation can be testing. We’ve experienced that first hand. But we’re choosing this situation to reflect on how lucky we are to have seen what we’ve seen, and to look forward to more adventures in the future. Whenever that may be. We invite you to do the same. Don’t lose your travel bug. Don’t lose your positivity. Good times are ahead. Even if it may not feel like it. Peace n love 💓
