Bill to me: mum can we go to the World Cup?
Me: no mate. I’m pretty sure it’s sold out, besides, do you even know where Qatar is?
Bill: ok can we go to the women’s World Cup then?
Me: hell yeah we can! Super excited that my ten yr old son wants to watch women’s sport. Super excited that he knows no difference between mens and women’s sport. He doesn’t know that only a few years ago they were making their own uniforms, paying their own way to tournaments, being ridiculed for trying to be elite athletes.

And I’m so excited that my daughter has sporting women to look up to. When I was at school I thought women only played netball. And no digs at netball at all, it’s about the variety of sports available to our girls now, and the more variety, the more netball will be elevated as well.

My husband has jumped on board. While he plays soccer, he doesn’t actively watch it, yet he’s cheering for the Matilda’s like they’re an Aussie national team, not like they’re a ‘women’s team’.

Is it a water shed moment in australia for women’s sport? Is it a……I’m not sure, what’s the correct term? I lack the ability to describe my thoughts as a writer might, but I feel that this is a world sporting event, not a women’s world sporting event.

It feels good, it feels right, I’m so proud.

We see the Matilda’s tomorrow in the round of 16. We can’t wait to stand for the national anthems with 80,000 others, celebrating sport for sport.

So many lemons on the trees! Mandarins too, and we've just planted snow peas for the months to come. I'm thinking lemon meringue pie, gin and tonics, hot toddies, lemon chicken..... We still have some dates for the school holidays. Book that last minute trip!

Can highly recommend the Ulladulla Schnitzel House and Oyster Bar. Big yummy feeds, great service and home delivery if you aren’t inclined to go anywhere!
