It's a question many migrants ask as they start their new life Down Under. Australia has an amazing healthcare programme, but your level of access depends on various factors such as whether you are eligible for Medicare or have private health insurance.

✅ If you have applied for permanent residency, are a permanent resident or hold certain visas you qualify for Medicare benefits.
💪 Eligibility for migrant workers varies based on their visa type. For example, temporary visa holders may have limited or no access to Medicare. In fact, some temporary visas require mandatory private health insurance so be sure to check in with a registered migration agent about that.

It’s important to understand many migrants who have access to Medicare still choose to keep their private health insurance for a number of reasons, including tax benefits.

Stay tuned as we delve deeper into questions and issues that may affect migrant workers and other visa holders. Have questions? Drop them in the comments below! We’ll do our best to answer them in future posts.

We’re sorry for the inconvenience if you’ve been trying to schedule a meeting with us, but we’re all booked up until the end of June 2024. 🌧️ And with the recent natural disasters in the South of Brazil, we’re focussing on helping our families, friends, and colleagues there. Due to this, we’ve decided to stop taking new bookings for now.

☺️But don’t stress. If you’ve already booked a consultation, process, or are in the middle of your process with us, it won’t be affected and you will still receive all necessary support and assistance from us during this time. We just won’t be taking any new cases until July 2024.

🙏 Thank you for your understanding. We’re looking forward to getting back and assisting you after July.

Graduating soon? If a Temporary Graduate Visa is part of your plans, here’s a heads up! Changes coming to Subclass 485 visa are expected to take effect on 1 July 2024:

👩‍🎓 The Graduate Work Stream will be renamed to the Post-Vocational Education Work Stream. If you have an associate degree, diploma, or trade qualification closely linked to an occupation on the MLTSSL, you may be eligible. The stay period remains up to 18 months (or up to 5 years for certain passport holders). The maximum age to apply will be reduced to 35 years old or under.

✋ Applicants who hold a degree qualification or higher will no longer be eligible for this stream.

🎓 The Post-Study Work Stream will be called the Post-Higher Education Stream. If you're 35 years old or younger and ready to work after your studies, this could be for you. There will be no more 'select degree' 2-year extension, but stay periods vary based on your degree level.

❗ There will be no changes to the Second Post-Study Work Stream but the Replacement Stream will be discontinued.

Just a reminder: These changes aren't in effect yet so we cannot confirm the details. We understand that these are drastic changes and may impact many current students, including our own clients. At the moment, we can advise that if you’re eligible to apply for the 485 before July, start preparing your application ASAP and lodge it before changes come into effect. For those planning to apply in or after July 2024, we suggest waiting to get the full picture of what the changes are and book a consultation to assess how they might impact your plans.

When it comes to your migration journey, you may be required to submit letters from previous employers like a Statement of Service, among others. Sometimes called a Letter of Service or Certificate of Service, a Statement of Service is an objective document that states your employment history and duties. It is typically required for Skills Assessments and visa applications.

Planning your path to (PR) in Australia? Understanding occupation ceilings and their role in your migration strategy can help you plan better!

🔎 Occupation ceilings are the maximum number of invitations issued for skilled migration in specific occupation groups. These ceilings vary depending on demand, with some occupations having higher or lower limits depending on state or territory.

So, how does knowing this help you? Knowing the limits for your occupation in certain states or territories can give you an idea if it will be in demand for long or not so you can adjust your strategy accordingly.📍

Ready to explore the options around your occupation? Whether it's navigating your Skills Assessment, submitting your EOI, or guiding your visa strategy, our expert team is ready to support you every step of the way.

03/04/2024

The NSW government has reduced the residency requirement for the Skilled Work Regional visa (subclass 491) under Pathway 1 from 1 year to just 6 months, effective immediately.

Pathway 1 is for individuals who have an established work history with a regional NSW-based employer. So, if you've been working and living in regional NSW for the past half-year, you may be eligible to apply for this visa.

This is a positive change for those who are already on the pathway and those considering a move, as it speeds up the process.

Please note that while the employment duration requirement has been reduced to 6 months, other criteria still apply. If you're unsure whether you meet all the necessary requirements, don’t hesitate to reach out to us for assistance and advice!

Australia is a hot spot for migration, no doubt about it. But with that popularity comes some immigration myths that are way off the mark. 😲 Let's debunk a few:

"Studying in Australia guarantees PR"
It's a common belief, but not the whole truth. While studying opens doors to a variety of paths that may lead to PR, there are often several steps in-between. A Registered Migration Agent can help you design a strategy for the student path.

"Offshore work experience always counts"
Regulatory requirements can make this tricky. You can ask a Registered Migration Agent for Skills Assessment guidance to know where you stand.

"Exaggerating claims on your EOI is okay"
Nope, it's a big no-no. Honesty is the best policy here.

These myths sound promising, offering an easier path. But for a migration plan that works, talking and working with a Registered Migration Agent is your best bet.

Important update for Student Visas! Home Affairs intends to replace the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement with a Genuine Student (GS) requirement starting 23 March 2024. With the GS requirement, applicants will have to submit a declaration that addresses specific questions to clarify their study intentions. This may include:

👨 Your current personal circumstances: Family ties, community, employment, and economic situation

📚 Your reason for choice of course in Australia

👷‍♂️ The benefits of taking this course

👨‍🎓 Previous study history in Australia, if applicable

🔎 Your reasons for applying for a student visa if you currently hold a visa other than a Student Visa

Remember: Your story should make sense and show genuine study intentions as authorities will closely examine it. Also, if you're considering a long-term stay, there are alternative visa options that might better fit your goals, potentially improving your chances for future permanent residency.

If you're unsure which visa option best fits your situation, reach out to us. We are more than happy to help.

Hey there, are you ready for your performance review? Whether you’re up for one right now or in a few months, remember that it’s about demonstrating your contributions to the company - which may pave the way for an offer of sponsorship. Here are some tips to shine:

📃 Big or small, document your wins! Be as concrete about the results and your role in the projects as you can - this can be a factor when discussing a pay raise or possible sponsorship.

⭐ Join workshops or online courses to level up in your field. This levels up your skills and can open doors to other projects.

🙋‍♂️ Reviews are a two-way street so if you’ve got ideas on what the company can improve and how you can help make it happen, this is an opportunity to raise it.

If sponsorship comes up in your review, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We can help you and your employer navigate the requirements and application process.
