Can anything more go wrong for our river communities? Now it’s purely the river authorities who’ve let the water past Mildura and not restored the weir in time. As if there’s not been enough pain for tourism the past 3 years while the clean up is costing millions.

The wonderful story of Murray Darling paddlesteamers.

Shipwrecks are synonymous with tumultuous tempests, fierce battles, mutinies and piracy, but the sinking of the Paddle-Steamer (PS) Rodney would go down in history as the first to be sunk in a fiery conflict by striking shearers.

It was the early hours of August 27, 1894. Under the cover of darkness, the PS Rodney was boarded by a group of 150 masked striking shearers hell-bent on the vessel's demise.

Saturday marked the 128th anniversary of the PS Rodney's sinking in a quiet lagoon on the Darling River near Pooncarie in NSW.

Save the Menindee Lakes. The NSW Government plans to cut off the Lakes from the Darling-Baaka River causing an ecological catastrophe. This is a poor environmental choice that threatens millions of people, environment and heritage. In part this is why the Colorado River is dead at the end of the system. The Murray-Darling Basis is one system.

The Menindee Lakes is an important connected wetland system on the Darling-Baaka River in the far west of NSW. It is a vital native fish nursery for the entire Murray-Darling Basin and has more bird species visit than Kakadu.
