Australia is experiencing a temporary surge in net overseas migration following the pandemic, mainly due to the return of overseas students, skilled temporary visa holders, and working holidaymakers, with a forecast of 400,000 migrants in 2022-23. The rebound in temporary migration has been slow initially but is now recovering at a faster rate.
The budget also includes details of the streamlined skilled migration program and increased enforcement and compliance activities to protect migrant workers.
