An important announcement from the Minister for Home Affairs at the Jobs and Skills Summit today: The Australian Government will add 35,000 places to the national skilled migration program, totalling to 195,000 places available to skilled migrants for 2022/23.

The Minister also announced that the Australian Government will "move away from the focus on short-term migrants, toward permanency, citizenship and nation building".

Albanese Government announced the drop of COVID-19 border restrictions and removal of COVID-19 vaccine requirement for international travelers, which will come into effect from midnight AEST on Wednesday 6 July 2022.

Following changes to the Biosecurity Act, people travelling to Australia will no longer have complete a Digital Passenger Declaration (DPD) to declare their COVID-19 vaccination status.

For the 2021-22 program, 3500 places for 190 and 750 places for 491 have been filled!

The 2022-23 VIC Skilled Migration Program is scheduled to open new ROIs in the second half of 2022.

If you have already missed it once, please submit it in July and control your procrastination!

Note: For those who are not invited in this financial year, or who fail to meet the deadline to submit, with the closure of the select in this financial year, all will be cleared, and the ROI needs to be resubmitted in the new financial year.

Good news for 489, 491, 494 and 485 visa holders!

Further flexibility for temporary migrants
The Morrison Government welcomes the return to Australia of a range of temporary workers to support our pandemic recovery in critical roles.

1. The Government will extend by 3 years Skilled Regional Provisional (subclass 489, 491 and 494) visas where the visa holder was impacted by COVID-19 international travel restrictions.

2. The Government will make changes to allow entry of current and former Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa holders from 18 February 2022, to allow them to re-enter Australia and apply for a further stay.
