The Jackaroo 4WD Club Of Australia Inc. A page for like minded people who want to experience the fun and cameraderie of a 4WD Club. Specific The Jackaroo 4WD Club of Australia Inc.

was established in 1983 and was the first "Jackaroo 4WD Club" in Australia. Although based in Sydney, we have members in the Illawarra, the Blue Mountains and the Newcastle and Central Coast areas as well as interstate in Brisbane. We welcome owners/drivers with all levels of experience from "beginners" to "experienced", and are a family friendly club with quite a few members with young families.

We are affiliated to 4WD NSW and ACT. We fully support and abide by their Code of Ethics. We respect both our vehicles and the environment and could, in no way be considered 'gung-ho' or 'bush-bashers'. We are a medium sized, family friendly club with a growing membership, currently around 75. We organise and lead at least one trip each month, either on Saturdays or Sundays, or two or three day camping trips, plus occasional extended trips to various outback locations. These trips will have varying degrees of difficulty, to suit the varying level of driver experience within the Club. The Club also organises BBQ's, picnics and other social outings for club members. We also, from time to time, organise mid-week trips for those members who cannot make the week-end trips. Club trips provide a means of gaining experience and confidence to tackle outback tracks while in the company and safety of other members and also the opportunity to see vehicle accessories and camping equipment etc. in use before purchasing your own. Our club has many lady members who actively participate in club events including driver training, trips, Committee and monthly meetings. We do not restrict membership to Jackaroo owners; all makes and models of Four Wheel Drive vehicles are welcome. Normally, there are no restrictive conditions on membership or social events, however a minimum of "Third Party Property Insurance" is required to participate in any 4WD trip. Other conditions may apply to certain club trips or outings.

❌❌CONSTRUCTION UNDERWAY❌❌

LITHGOW'S LOST CITY WALKING TRACK AND GLOW WORM TUNNEL PATHWAY IS UNDERWAY

Ground has been broken at the Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area, with construction of the Lost City Walking Track now underway as part of a $49.5 million NSW Government commitment to establish Lithgow as a premier tourism destination.

Construction of the Lost City Walking Track marks the first visitor infrastructure project to start since the reserve came under National Parks and Wildlife Service management in May 2022.

Located 5 minutes’ drive from Lithgow CBD, the 5 km walking track will capture unrivalled views of the iconic Lost City skyline, meandering through platy pagoda formations with the sandstone escarpment as a backdrop.

The family friendly walking track will be accessible via 2-wheel-drive, with a car park and facilities, and visitor interpretations that tell the story of the area’s rich biodiversity and colourful mining history.

Planning is underway for a number of other nature-based visitor experiences including a dedicated mountain bike network, shared-use walking and cycling trail, picnic areas and a family-friendly campground.

Due to the Lost City Walking Track construction and other park establishment infrastructure works, including road and fire trail repair works, the Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area has some areas temporarily closed to visitors.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service has also continued work on upgrading walking tracks and constructing a path at the nearby Glow Worm Tunnel in Wollemi National Park. Once completed, the pathway will allow visitors to marvel at the glow worms from a safe distance.

The tunnel path project is expected to be completed in mid-2024 but the National Parks and Wildlife Service plans to open the popular precinct for summer holiday visitors for a short stint from 23 December 2023 until 9 January 2024.

Visitors should use a red LED light to navigate the tunnel, stay away from the glow worms and be aware of uneven and slippery surfaces.

Visitors are urged to check the National Parks and Wildlife Service alerts page prior to planning a visit to either park.

# Quote attributable to National Parks and Wildlife Service Blue Mountains Branch Director David Crust: 'The transformation of the Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area from a former state forest to a protected reserve over the last 18 months has been remarkable.

It’s exciting to see extensive park planning, design and consultation come to life, while supporting natural and cultural values and delivering opportunities for the visitors of tomorrow. Establishment works undertaken so far including maintaining and upgrading roads, removing rubbish, flora and fauna surveys, pest and w**d control and installing signage.

Once completed the important upgrades at Glow Worm Tunnel will allow the 50,000 visitors who come to the site each year to enjoy the glow worm colony from a proper path that keeps both visitors and the glow worms safe.

For safety reasons visitors can’t access the Glow Worm Tunnel precinct or some parts of the Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area while construction works are taking place but keep an eye on our webpage for updates on opening and closures, along with important information such as solid fuel bans which are in place until 31 March 2024.

Hopefully this will flow on to NSW and other states in due time. Fantastic work and an example of what our Association is working on in the background on our behalf.

“Milestone achieved!!!! Earlier this week, Transport & Main Roads (TMR) Queensland have released the newly developed Gross Combination Mass (GCM) code as well as the modification of the GVM code. This has been a huge amount of work by TMR Queensland and their NSW & Victorian counterparts along the AAAA working group. Industry driven and two years in the making, ARB 4x4 Accessories, Fulcrum Suspensions, Pedders Suspension & Brakes, Lovells Automotive Systems and Six Wheeler Conversions PL were heavily involved in this milestone and Four Wheel Drive Australia are extremely proud to be associated with this working group in which our Industry will no doubt see the benefits into the future.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT
South Australian Vehicle Engineering Determination Number 59 - Attachments to Camper Trailers

Background

MDC Camper Trailers and Offroad Caravans (MDC) were recently made aware of an Engineering Determination (No. 59) published by the South Australian Vehicle Regulators by an MDC customer. This determination refers to the side mounted boat rack design which is fitted to several MDC Camper Trailer Models. The SA Vehicle Regulators are of the view that this type of external projection does not comply with the relevant Australian Design Rules (ADR 92/00). MDC disagrees with this determination and believe the side mounted storage rack complies with the requirements and intent of the relevant Australian Design Rule (ADR 92/00 —External Projections).

This Engineering Determination was unfortunately made by the SA Vehicle Regulators without any industry consultation. Further to this, upon publication of this determination on 6 March 2020 this was not shared with industry businesses or relevant industry bodies and has only recently surfaced as a result of an MDC customer raising concern in July after receiving an infringement notice. Since this time, MDC has been in extensive correspondence with the SA Vehicle Regulators and the relevant industry bodies to better understand their concerns and subsequent requirements.

Once MDC are clear on a way forward, relevant customers will be informed as a priority and appropriate action will be taken (if necessary). Until the matter of alleged non-compliance is clearer, unfortunately MDC (or any other impacted industry businesses) cannot move forward with any form of remedy (if required) or exemption for its customers.
It is important to note that this is only an issue in South Australia, no other state or territory is applying this determination.

Recommendations

As this is a state-based interpretation of a national standard (determination), MDC recommends whilst conversations are ongoing with the relevant regulators that all MDC customers who are travelling through South Australia temporarily remove the boat rack. MDC appreciates this recommendation is less than ideal, but until this matter is better understood, to avoid receiving an SA Infringement Notice this is the only option available at this time.

MDC in collaboration with the SA Vehicle Regulators, Caravan Industry Association of Australia and the Caravan and Camping Industries SA Inc. hope to over the coming weeks resolve this matter through a series of meetings.

MDC sincerely apologises to all customers who have been negatively impacted by this Vehicle Engineering Determination. As a company, MDC remains committed to providing Camper Trailers and Caravans to market that comply with the relevant regulations and more importantly keeping our customers and other road users safe.

Yours sincerely,

Vaughan Hindley
Managing Director

Great news! We are getting a new national park in Western Sydney.

Quolls, bettongs and the brush-tailed phascogale are just some of the locally extinct species making their historic return to a new National Park and feral predator-free area in western Sydney.
