MY MY MY DELILAH!
Crank it out, Tommy old son!
The grassy green fields of the Welsh countryside have certainly been calling … but there was almost an uprising this morning when the promised better weather didn’t eventuate for day two of our Yamaha Tenere Experience adventure.
Instead we were bathed in fog and mist at the top of the first hill upon leaving the YTE Welcome Centre … never trust the word of a Welsh weatherman!
But it didn’t matter, we were soon in the forest, doing what T7s do best and setting forth on another premium day’s riding.
The Jones clan sure do have access to so much primo terrain — and we copped it by the bucketload today. I’ll let the photos do the talking on that front. Check ‘em out!
And the sun even poked its head out … now and then … almost.
The six-pack of British ADVers were a great crew to ride with.
Marc and Iain were the ringleaders of the group and had ridden previously with YTE — in fact they had their first exposure to the T7 World Raid on their last ride with the Joneses, and promptly went home and bought one each!
Massive thanks to YTE guides Dylan Jones and John Begley for letting me join in on the action, and kudos to Geraint and Jan Jones, who have been at the helm of the Yamaha off-road riding operation for 30 years and are still hands on today!
Can’t recommend the Yamaha Tenere Experience highly enough, and get this: they have 16 T7s on the fleet, so get in and experience one for yourself, in the heart of a very special ADV riding destination.

YAMAHA TENERE EXPERIENCE … WHEN IN WALES!
Captain T has been wanting to ride with this crew for ages, and was so glad to make it a reality today by joining in on the action of a Yamaha Tenere Experience adventure ride in Wales, UK.
For 30 years Welsh enduro legend Geraint Jones and his family have been hosting Yamaha off-road and adventure training courses and guided rides, and what a totally pro outfit it is.
The Captain has joined six British riders for a two day Tenere Experience tour through the Welsh countryside, and it’s been a blast … even if the Welsh ‘summer’ weather today was, shall we say, rather wet and miserable.
Guides Dylan Jones and John Begley turned on a fun and scenic ride … when we could actually see the countryside through the mist and drizzle!
Green is the colour pallet for this place, mixed with black, which is the colour of the greasy ground that awaits you around every turn. But that said, the majority of tracks and trails we ran were stoney and hard packed, so power on!
Super-stoked to ride the Yamaha Tenere 700 Extreme today: the boosted suspension only adds to the globally popular T7 package. Aussie riders would surely love it … if only!
Tomorrow we get to do it all again, and the weather forecast suggests the drizzle might even back off to give us a view!

On the hunt for a lovingly cared for XT600ZL Tenere 34L in good original condition?

It’s been owned for the past 15 years by one of our OG Tenere Tragics, Chris, and he says the bike has quite a bit of ‘patina’ but the motor is strong and reliable, as is the gearbox.

TENERE RUMBLING
Always a great time when you can get a few Teneres hunting in a pack.
So the Captain, Darcy and the Geeza decided to take on the DSMRA Nundle Rumble ADV ride over the weekend aboard a trio of T7s.
And then Russ and Decimal rolled up on their T7s as well, along with a few punters on yet more T7s.
Seriously, the T-birds were like backsides — everybody had one … almost.
And then Tragic Frans joined in at Singleton aboard his legendary 1VJ … to fully feed the feelings of Tenere nostalgia.
And from that point forth unbridled lashings of Tenere Gold were consumed.
Good times, and how good is that T7 World Raid? Yamaha sure have got their ducks in a row with that one … the fat-tanked Tenere is back, baby!

MAKING MUSIC WITH LEO
The Captain’s been itching to get this exhausting work of art fitted to the T7 World Raid Project Bike for what seems like ages.
As soon as the Leo Vince slip-on arrived tonight, it was straight into the man cave to start twirling those T-bars.
It’s a LV One Evo stainless steel muffler and mid-pipe that saves almost 2kg in weight over the stocker, sounds absolutely grouse and looks oh-so bloody mint.
It comes complete with carbon heat shields and clamp, all mounting hardware and fits up a treat. LV even give you a spring puller for mounting the spring at the muffler to mid-pipe join. Nice.
Can’t wait to let this silver beauty sing!

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED
When you’re bordering on being way too tragic, you almost forget what beasts you’ve got stashed under dust-covers in the back of your shed.
Like this XTZ750 Super Tenere, that’s been stashed in the Captain’s shed for a while now.
It’s quite the classic and its former long, long-term owner, a guy named Gordon from south of the border, ensured that it lived the life of a true outback touring Tenere and as a result it has a rich patina that any Tragic would be proud of.
It’s racked up over 80,000km.
It’s been fitted with a TDM850 motor.
It bristles with lots of little detail set-ups that tell you it’s been used as it’s maker intended: there’s spare fuel hose cable-tied to the handlebar cross brace; there’s spare radiator hose stashed in the bashplate, it’s got heated grips, fuel filter, a throttle locker, power outlets, hard lasting Cheng Shin tyres and more. And yes, it has a Husqvarna muffler … sacrilege!
For sure, it’s been well used and is battle-scarred, but that’s what makes that patina all the richer.
Anyway, it’s time to get this blue and white twin-cylinder beast back in the game.
It’s coming out from under the dust-cover and I’m stoked that proud Tenere Tragic and former longtime Lithgow Bike Stop Yamaha dealership owner Dave Wilson from Bilpin Moto Adventures has stepped up to the plate to help inject a big dose of life back into this piece of ADV classic iron.
It’s going to be a slow burn, but Wilso and I are on the same page when it comes to how hard to go with this rebuild.
“I’m with you, Clubby,” Wilso smiled this morning. “Challenge accepted.”
750 Super Ts are rare birds, but I want this bird to be good enough to one day drag me out to Cameron Corner and back again, deep into the kind of country where Super Ts were designed to fly.

YAMAHA TENERE 700 DESERT SLAYER FROM SAFARI TANKS
Okay T7 riders, when you want the ultimate in fuel capacity, and you want the maximum fuel load carried nice and low, check out this final prototype desert slayer fuel tank setup from Aussie brand Safari Tanks.
The dual tank setup carries just on 22.5 litres per side, giving a total fuel capacity around 45 litres, and check out the design: the tanks are lower up top than a stock T7 tank, with the majority of the fuel load carried down low around the engine cases. Awesome!
Developed in conjunction with legend Aussie rally racer Rod Faggotter, the Safari Tanks are in the very final stages of testing now and are expected be ready to go soon.

Tenere disciples all around the country are polishing their bikes to be ready for the ultimate dose of Tenere goodness, that fires into life on the Queensland Fraser coast on March 4, and will see the Tragics romp across south-east Queensland and northern NSW to the finish five days later. Best of all, we've got a couple of lucky last spots available on the Run for any potential Tragic who thought they had missed out. TT17 Day 5

Day 5 The final day saw the Tragics head from Queenstown up the remote west coast of Tassie to end at Tall Timbers Resort in Smithton for the Farewell Awards Dinner. What a fantastic week! TT17 Day 4

Day 4 the Tragics rode 369km to Queenstown on a good mix of dirt, gravel and tar. A stop at the Waddamana Power Station for a tour before the windy road down into Queenstown for the next overnight stop.

TT17 Day 3

Day 3 saw the Tragics head up to check out the view over Hobart from Mt Wellington, then a morning latte stop at Horizon Yamaha. Lunch was at New Norfolk before heading out to Pedder Wilderness Resort on beautiful Lake Pedder at Strathgordon. Day 2 of the 2017 Tenere Tragics Tasmanian Devil Run, started in Swansea and headed to historic Port Arthur via morning smoko at the beautiful town of Ross and lunch at Orford.
