A shopping street in Tokyo is now the longest in Japan, taking 50 or more minutes to traverse from end to end.

Living in your own home in Japan - from dream to reality.

Chani, an Australian woman, moved to Japan and purchased a cheap abandoned house for under $20,000 AUD without a professional inspection.

Shortly after receiving the keys, she discovered numerous issues including leaking pipes, a failing septic system, and termites, leading to unexpected expenses.

Chani faced cultural differences, such as a kerosene-powered hot water system and unique garbage collection practices.

Despite challenges, she appreciated features like her rare garage and worked on improvements, including painting the dark plywood walls white.

She adapted to the lack of outdoor space by creating an area for barbecues and entertaining.

In total, Chani spent around $39,000 AUD on the purchase, taxes, and renovations.

Though the experience was stressful and costly, Chani remains positive about her new home and hopes to inspire others facing similar challenges.

Through her YouTube channel, "Chani Japan", she shares her experiences and lessons learned from buying and renovating an abandoned house in Japan.

More photos from the current Autumn in Japan tour. This time our tour group included several who were keen to walk in the mountain foothills North of Kyoto. We started at Kurama station, and walked over a ridge to Kibune on the other side. About 2.5 hour walk.
