Travelling Around Australia Travelling and exploring Australia by caravan, camper, motorhome or 4x4? For some, it can seem overwhelming, scary or even impossible.
(31)

Places to see, campsites to visit, c/van parks to stay and nifty products to make your camping and travel adventure more enjoyable. To travel around Australia.... its something that so many people dream of doing, but unfortunately so few people actually set aside to some time to do it. Whether its by caravan, motorhome, camper trailer, 4x4 or tent- Everyone should try to set aside a bit of time to

explore our own big backyard. Even its only for a few months!! Explore it....Experience it....Enjoy it! Pack up your house, leave your 'comfortable and familiar' life behind and hit the highways to discover new places and venture the remote (an not so remote) corners of this great country.

🎥 We made the cut for the latest video. 😬

Our trip back to Lightning Ridge last September to catch up back with Outback Opal Tours was awesome. We took my parents out there to met Borko and Franka and explore the Ridge again.

We met these guys back in 2019 on our lap of Oz. Borko was our tour guide out to the 3 pubs in the scrub. This True Blue Aussie Opal Miner who was born and bred in Lightning Ridge, has so many stories, history, yarns and jokes to tell which adds to the experience.

If you are out that way, you need to book a tour with these guys.

You must stay at Carinya Station. Perfect location while exploring the Ridge.

❓ Who else loved Lightning Ridge? Tell us your favourite tips and where you stayed.

🏝️ Survior Island Experience 🏝️

We are getting ready for a 2 week island adventure. Our followers might remember we were scheduled to explore this island September 2022. But within a week of our departure, Craig had surgery to remove a fish spike from his hand and the surgeon would not let him go to the remote island, because of the high risk of infection.

Well we are getting ready to try again!

I am keen to hear about people’s Starlink experience, with remote locations. I just need to check emails twice a day to keep the business running.

Share positive & negatives experiences with Starlink. Thanks. X

We are less than 10 days away from our Sept school holiday trip. My parents are tagging along this time…making memories with the oldies. Can’t wait to share our love of exploring our wonderful country.

We are heading to north west NSW to visiting family and great mates we meet on our lap of Oz. Outback Opal Tours

Bingara, Narrabri, Lightning Ridge, Chinchilla plus more.

Send PM tips of where else we should visit.

Where are you planning your next adventure?

Or…where is your next destination, on your current trip?

💙 We love the hot thermal pools!! We haven’t been to these ones but highly recommend them. Which ones have you been to?

🦕Day 18 Dino Trail. 🦕

📍Childers, Qld

When we couldn’t go to North West Island, Rylee was devastated so we told her we would stop in at the Flying High Bird Park, at Apple Trees on the way home. We have driven past so many times, but haven’t had the time to stop in and visit.

She loved it! We all did. Lots of birds and other animals that you can get up and close with.🦜

Highly recommend popping in for a visit. 🦜

📍Blackdown Tableland National Park, Qld

We spent the whole day exploring the National Park. Up early and drove to the top, through some of the thickest fog. We had to bypass the lookouts, and come back later in the day, as we were flat out seeing 10m in front of us on our drive up. It didn’t take long for the day to heat up and burn the fog off.

Awesome day spent hiking, swimming, 4WD and taking in the amazing views from a number of lookouts.

📍The Lake Dune Sculpture Trail.

Aramac, Qld (Barcaldine Region)

The Sculpture Trail is a 200km circuit starting in Aramac and features 40 sculptures along the scenic loop.

The kids loved searching for each sculpture. It became a competition between the two of them. They loved it. Fun day activity.

HINT: Craig used wiki camp to give us hints when we were getting close. This helps to speed up the trip. (Some sculptures are 5kms apart).

NOTE: The road is sealed from Aramac to Lake Dunn via Eastmere Road. Ballyneety Road and Jericho Aramac Road are unsealed. We drove anti clockwise, on the unsealed section first. We wouldn’t recommend towing, we parked our van on the street behind the info centre in Barcaldine.

This is a full day trip. But totally worth it.

📍The Australian Age of the Dinosaur Museum, Winton, Qld. 🦕

The museum is home to the largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils in the world.

We did the Ultimate Dinosaur tour which included a guided tour of the Fossil Preparation Lab, Collection Room and March of the Titanosaurs exhibition and a self guided walk of Dinosaurs Canyon.

This was definitely a highlight for most of us.

✅ ADVICE - It was difficult to know how and what to book. We recommend calling The Age of the Dinosaur Info centre and explain who’s in your group and your time frame. They were really helpful in telling us what to book and what not to and the best way to organise our visit. The website can be a bit confusing. This saving us heaps of time and avoided booking the wrong thing.

📍Day 6-8 Dino Trail. 🦕

Winton, Qld

FINALLY 3 nights in one spot. There have been massive days to get here, but there are massive day trips ahead of us. Living on the road, is completely different to planning a 2 week school holiday adventure. Pack in as much as we can, in a small period of time. Snooze when you get home. 🤣

We sure did pack a LOT in;

The Stampede - $1.13 Club 🤣🤣🚓 lucky I’m not a member.
Tattersalls Hotel - Antony’s 40th Birthday 🎂
The Age of The Dinosaur 🦕
Waltzing Matilda 🎶
The Musical Fence 🥁
Two WINTON Sunset Signs 🌅
Winton Surf Club 🏄🏼
Opal Fossicking and the town hall 💎
Crack up Sisters 👩‍❤️‍👩
Plus sunrise morning walks each day ☀️
Another town, another hospital visit for Craig 🏥

⛺️ We stayed at the Winton Roadhouse Caravan Park. Great facilities and a pool for the kids. $35/night

📍Day 5 Dino Trail. 🦕

Porcupine Gorge NP, Qld

Early start to head out to Porcupine Gorge NP, also known as Australia’s Little Grand Canyon, for the night.

We stopped at the lookout and the whistling bore on the drive way out. The lookout is definitely worth the stop, as it gives a great view deep into the Gorge below, but don’t bother stopping at the the whistling bore.

We spent most of the day at the bottom of gorge where the kids swam and explored the amazing landscape. Make the effort to walk down towards the Pyramid formation, as there are some pretty cool rock formations, ponds and swimming holes.

Definitely a highlight of the trip so far.

📍Day 4 Dino Trail. 🦕

Midge Point - Hughenden, Qld

A big drive day today, 700km. Leaving the coast and heading inland. Long roads of nothing.

Stopped off at Prairie Pub, with plans to stay at the free over night camp area. But after a quick drink we decided to push on to Hughenden, as Craig needed to go to the hospital for a post surgery check up.

Hughenden discovery centre wasn’t really impressive, but they are upgrading next year. Hope they make improvements, as it’s currently not worth the entry fee.

Great free camp ground at the Hughenden Showgrounds.
