Wow! Our first ever Mottainai Retreat filled its twelve places very quickly in pre-release. It’s thrilling to find the response to this different style of Japan experience. We have a few people on the waiting list but if you’d like to be notified for the 2025 release message us.

Come and learn the history, art and possibilities of Japanese semamori. - - stitched talismans traditionally stitched in children’s clothing to protect them. Learn how to use these ‘stitched blessings’ to add a touch of Japanese love to your work.

You’ll use a kit of beautiful antique and vintage Japanese fabrics, Japanese needles and threads, semamori motif sheets and a pouch pattern. Thank you so much for having us Valley Spinners and Craft Group! What a privilege to join you in your Year of Learning to celebrate 45 years of you wonderful group. 20 enthusiastic shibori indigo dyers today and 20 komebukuro stitchers yesterday - we so enjoyed sharing Japanese textiles, cultural context and as much as we could with you all. A most glorious creative week with our Shibori Indigo group in Candidasa, Bali. These few shots just a fraction of the amazing pieces these lovely people made. We run the workshop in a very particular way - four days intensive dyeing and then two days to support whatever creative project people want. Some Japanese bags, some amazing quilts, some art pieces, some clothing on this occasion - 15 different individuals, 15 different projects! This is the deepest shibori indigo dive we do - come and join us in 2025 if this sounds good to you
