At the end of what i call the main street in Kyoto Shijo-dori, in Gion district is OMO5 Gion. Tatami mats so no shoes. Staff are fabulous, call themselves OMO rangers and love giving recommendations and making reservations. Large crowds wandering down and around Hanamikoji street. There is no cafe so we get to make our breakfast in our rooms.

in Fushimi, about 30 min south of central Kyoto, where ever that may be, is the Gekkeikan Okura Sake museum where start their sake tours. 3 hours of information, tasting, find out what type of sake you prefer and work from there. Somewhat complex, but fun and i apparently like junmai.

i have been staying in the Hakone area , just a couple of stops out of Tokyo on the shinkansen. Two beautiful but different KAI properties, both onsen. KAI Hakone is more traditional, shared onsen and stunning food. KAI Sengokuhara is a smaller property and each room has their own small onsen. Again stunning food served in the restaurant in individual rooms.

If you are ever in Tokyo I think this place is fabulous. i had lunch there today, it is not far from Tokyo Station on the Marunouchi side, takes about 1 1/2 hours , about 22 different selections , from vegetable to seafood. Reasonably priced

Start of my current trip to Japan. Arrived late yesterday, my room for a few days. Today is humid, morning rain, visit to Hamarikyu gardens, Tsukiji market where people congregate to get tastings , fish, knives etc and some of us lunch.

Thanks NZ for a fabulous time. To my friends and travelling companions and for your company and ability to continue to laugh. Thanks also to for seeing the great foodie spots of Dunedin, to sara ewing for her fabulous hospitality and care of us around on the Otago peninsula. To .hunt for a fabulous famil to and kaikoura for the dolphins , , , for our tour in Christchurch and many more . And for great flights there and back, and no cancellations or delays.

Hepburn Springs is a lovely small town , some 10 minutes from Daylesford. plenty of places to stay, hotel Bellinzona, Peppers and lots of houses and cottages. Harry’s for brunch, lavandula lavender farm for a walk and a pizza and Wombat Hill botanical gardens.
