It is a beloved, historic cinema. But does it also have a future?

It seems only fitting that Tassie's top small tourism town is also the West Coast's largest town. If you've visited Queenstown you'll know that what the town lacks in traffic lights and bustling streets, it makes up for with larger than life stories from locals, an epic mountain backdrop and a huge history.

Take a trip outside your comfort zone and uncover the mystery of this historic town for yourself.

"Welcome to the rainforest. Don't complain about the rain."

An A+ photo and quote from following a recent visit to Montezuma Falls in all its autumn glory.

Break up the long drive and stretch your legs - you won’t be disappointed.

Nelson Falls are reached after an easy 20 minute return (1.4km) boardwalk stroll beside a river through a forest of sassafras, myrtle and ferns. The falls are especially spectacular after heavy rain.

This walk is classed at level Grade 2 - no bushwalking experience required, and is a gentle stroll. To enjoy this walk ensure you have sturdy footwear and please supervise children as there is flowing water.

There is free parking and public toilets, and park entry fees apply.

Take a front seat at the Edge of the World (literally).

Gardiner Point is the Western most point in Tasmania with 15,000kms of wild Southern Ocean stretching all the way to the Argentinian coast. If the views don't take your breath away, the roaring sea breeze almost certainly will.

To the untrained eye, it may look like we've gravelled the entire track in the Heemskirk network. But that's just how nature intended it, the beautiful quartzite gravel is what's underneath, right with the ground she came from.

At 1146m above sea level, Mt Owen keeps a watchful eye over Queenstown. Hiking, mountain biking and waterfalls are all found on our town’s landmark- have you explored her yet?

The Iron Blow is the site of the earliest major mining venture at Mount Lyell, back in 1883.

The lookout gives a vertigo-inducing view of a landscape scarred by historical mining activity. Walk out onto a cantilevered lookout offering fantastic views over the former open cut mine and the Linda Valley.

Travel to the lookout by turning onto Iron Blow Road at the top of the Gormanston Hill. Access is via a sealed road, with ample free parking available. For more information on this and other scenic spots around the area visit our website at www.westcoasttas.com.au.

Great news! The Spray Tunnel in Zeehan has reopened👏

As you make your way along the boardwalk see if you can catch a glimpse of the glow worms that make this historic tunnel their home. 🐛

The Spray Tunnel is a must-see when on the West Coast - carved through a hill so that ore could be moved from the nearby Spray Silver Mine on the other side. ⚒️

Remember to respect and care for the area so people can continue to experience this amazing piece of West Coast history - fossicking and carving into the tunnel is not permitted and it's always best to experience our special West Coast locations using the principle.

WOW… check out Montezuma Falls this week.

What a brilliant capture thanks to Kirsty, Hallam and Mac the Border Collie. They say:

🌿 This one is definitely up there as one of my favourite dog-friendly waterfall hikes in Australia so far!

🌿 You might expect a waterfall named after a powerful Aztec emperor to be grand, and in this case, you’d be right.

🌿 The 10km return walk follows a former tramway through wet, steep, thickly forested west coast country, passing a creepy disused mine that you can access and ending at the highest waterfall in Tasmania.

🌿 There is also a cool suspension bridge looking out to the falls and the wild western wilderness.

Perhaps one of the most rewarding short day walks in Tasmania, the Montezuma Falls track is a great addition to any visit to the West Coast. For more information on this great walk, including getting there and a trail map, click on the link below thanks to TasTrails 👇
