Sicily is finally getting the limelight it deserves! Here are a few fun facts that you may not know...

🗺 Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean, followed by Sardinia and Cyprus.
🌋 It is home to Europe's most active volcano, Mt Etna.
🏦 The island is full of examples of Baroque architecture. After a devastating earthquake in 1693, this style of architecture flourished as Sicily was rebuilt. Our favourite cities are gritty but glamourous Palermo and elegant and ornate Noto.
🫒 The food in Sicily is fantastic! It is the birthplace of canolli, has a thriving street food scene as well as lots of unique pasta dishes and fresh seafood.

Doha is emerging as a tourism hotspot, and we couldn't be more excited! Since early February, Santorini and other nearby Cycladic islands in Greece have been experiencing frequent earthquake tremors. This is what we know so far:

• As it is winter in Greece, Sun Island Tours does not have any clients currently in Santorini. However, we will continue to monitor the situation, assisted by our ground operator in Greece who provides 24-hour emergency support to Sun Island Tours customers.
• The earthquakes are being caused by movement of undersea tectonic plates, not volcanic activity. The epicentres of the earthquakes are about 10-20km north-east of Santorini.
• The last time Santorini experienced large earthquakes was 1956.
• There has not been any major damage or injuries on the island. Greek authorities have declared a state of emergency and rescue teams and additional seismic sensors have been deployed as a precaution.
