Embattled regional airline Bonza has cancelled flights across the country today, stranding potentially thousands of passengers, as it considers its future.

Early Bonza flights in and out of its base on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, along with Melbourne legs to Rockhampton, Gladstone and Tamworth were all cancelled this morning.

Bonza CEO Tim Jordan released a statement just after 8am saying all services would be “temporarily suspended”.

He said discussions were being had about the ongoing viability of the business.

Mr Jordan apologised to customers, saying Bonza was trying to find a way to keep flying.

Bonza’s financial position has been the subject of intense speculation since its first flight early last year.

Starting from April 25, 2024 and only on selected dates, the Venice Entrance Fee Tax will become active on an experimental basis.

Customers staying in Venice (in facilities of the Municipality of Venice located within the municipal territory and providing temporary paid accommodation for any reason, insofar as they are subject to the tourist tax) fall into the exempt categories but will still have to register and obtain the QR code to show to the on-site control staff.

Anyone who does not stay overnight in Venice and will visit the city on the days and times indicated will have to register in advance, pay the entrance fee and download the QR code to show to the control staff on site.
