What does it take to Trek Tasmania’s South Coast Track?
It’s a guide favourite. Tasmania’s 85 km South Coast Track is one of Australia’s finest long-distance walks, offering a spectrum of wild southern Australian scenes, from empty beaches to towering rainforests and the alpine heights of the Ironbound Range.

Phytophthora cleaning station
The Phytophthora cleaning station has officially arrived at our Flinders Island Eco-Comfort Camps.
Phytophthora - Also known as Dieback or Root-rot, is a plant pathogen that can attack the root system of susceptible plants and can devastate ecosystems - like the pristine environment of Flinders Island.
It is known to spread through soil on shoes and as walking groups, it's our responsibility to ensure we are not unknowingly spreading the disease.
Looks like Crayfish is on the menu for adventurers on the South Coast Track.
Guides Annabel and Shelby had the pleasure of doing the food-drop near Deadman’s Bay. Not for the faint hearted, the South Coast Track is one of Australia’s finest long-distance walks.

There are plenty of opportunities to see wombats in Tassie - but Maria Island wombats are special.

Giant Kelp on the Tarkine
We untangled this endangered giant kelp on the Tarkine coast, trying to get a sense of how tall it would be in the water.
The world's largest marine algae is unfortunately now endangered - 95% of Tasmania's once widespread giant kelp forests have vanished due to climate change.

Spotting a Tasmanian Devil on Maria Island
There was a special treat for our travellers on Maria Island who caught Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service in action.
The team run Tasmanian Devil checks every January and June and here they caught a young Devil (maybe 1 to 2-years-old) from a trap they laid the night before. This fella wasn't microchipped, so they added the chip and did a bit of data collection to be able to monitor its progress on their next scheduled check-up.
These check-ups help to see if they are feeding well on the island and to monitor their growth.
