A NEW program is arriving in Port Stephens next year and it's for dads and daughters.

Port Stephens resident and school teacher Jacob Springfield is bringing the community program Daughters and Dads to Tomaree High School and said it's a huge win for local people.

The program will kick off in Term 1 of next year and will be held on Monday nights, from 5pm to 6pm and Mr Springfield said it is a great opportunity for quality one-on-one time.

"This program is for anyone with primary school- aged daughters, and it's all about having fun for that one hour a week," he said.

The program has been developed through the University of Newcastle in the past ten years, and Mr Springfield said he became involved with it after studying it as an elective subject for his teaching degree.

"As part of the program, I had to attend some of the sessions in the community and I thought it was so amazing," he said.

Mr Springfield has been facilitating the program himself for the past six years in Newcastle but said he's always been pushing to run the program in Port Stephens.

He now has the opportunity to do so through his business Lucky Dog Tours, which has become a licensed partner with the University of Newcastle to deliver the program in Port Stephens.

"The generous support of our sponsors ensures that this program is completely free for the participants," Mr Springfield said.

As part of the program, different content is covered each week from parenting techniques to the importance of being physically active and gender equity.

"I've witnessed the benefits that the program has for so many families," Mr Springfield said.
