Rocks, rocks, rocks and more rocks.. but there is a secret story in these rocks, and it tells of how animal life first evolved on Earth over half a BILLION years ago 🌎

We are telling the story of Earth's ancient environments and the evolution of animal life - so perfectly preserved in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia - through educational tours.

Our next Flinders Ranges 3-day tour is available to international university students from South Australia and is departing on the 26th of this month and returning to Adelaide on the 28th. Visit the link in our Bio to book ✅

We had wonderful experiences whilst hosting our 7th Outback Study Tour with the University of Adelaide Law Faculty this year 🙌

South Australia's outback is truly remarkable, we have striking scenery, rare fauna and flora, desert waterholes and incredible history including sacred cultural landmarks.

We had a very special experience with a Kokatha elder Andrew Starkey who escorted us into the Woomera Prohibited Area to observe and learn about a sacred engraved rock site.

Amongst many other amazing experiences with stayed at the Arid Recovery Centre to learn about their important conservation & research work on our endangered native animals. Time was spent assisting with fencing & to tag species as part of the Arid Recovery Centre initiatives 🪶🐾

Flashback to our Flinders Ranges trip last year! We were familiarising ourselves with the amazing story recorded by the ancient geology of the Flinders Ranges!

We are creating a unique tour - where we explore ancient Earth and learn how the fossils and geology of the Flinders Ranges tell us about how animal life first evolved on Earth 🌎

Day 3 was a great wrap to our South East Tour!

In the morning we visited MiniJumbuk in Naracoorte and had a private tour of the factory and how they make Australian products from Australian wool. Afterward, we made our way east to the town of Kingston where we had lunch and saw the amazing Larry the Lobster! We then headed up the coast along the Coorong on our way home.

The day was finished off with a stop at Mt Lofty to admire Adelaide City as the sun was setting👌

Thank you so much to our amazing group of university students, tour guides, and for sponsoring the tour!! 🥰

Day Two of our South East Tour! We enjoyed a tour of Victoria Fossil Cave at Naracoorte Caves National Park and saw the amazing megafauna skeletons at an active dig site. We travelled down to Mt Gambier - the second largest city in South Australia - and walked around the beautiful Blue Lake and the famous Umpherston Sink Hole. The day was finished with wine tasting at DiGiorgio Winery in the Coonawarra!🍷

Not a bad start to our South East Tour ☺ On day 1 we experienced a guided tour through the beautiful cathedral-like Blanche Cave at Naracoorte Caves National Park. We also had the opportunity of being Palaeontologists and sorting through fossils first-hand! Finally, the day was topped off with a BBQ dinner and chocolate bananas around a camp-fire - yummy 😋

Dr Felicity Coutts (Paleontologist), Kym Geue (expert guide), Doug Clarke (teacher) and I are very excited to take students to areas that show the evolution of time including to see the oldest fossils in the world - 550 million yr old Ediacaran fossils. Looking forward to 2022 touring !!!

Words On Wheels had a blast touring around beautiful South Australia in the April holidays. On tour, we certainly had many budding Flinders Ranges ediacaran paleontologists and Barossa Valley winemakers in the making. New July programs to be announced soon.
