Thanks to Grand Hotel Central for a lovely stay in Barcelona.

Great location in the Gothic Quarter. Fabulous rooftop pool, bar and restaurant area.

Last stop was 4 nights in Barcelona 🇪🇸

Every meal we had was fantastic and very reasonably priced.

There was no negativity towards tourists, which has been an issue of late.

It was very busy despite it being off season.

I highly recommend the Hop On Hop Off Bus here as it’s a huge city.

Day 8: We disembarked in Barcelona.
We were docked in Barcelona for the last night of the cruise. This happens occasionally to give those who fly out straight away, the chance to see the arrival city. We had a great time on the cruise and I am so thankful to Viking and Singapore Airlines for this unforgettable experience.

Day 7: we arrived in to Barcelona early morning.
We are staying in Barcelona after the cruise and wanted to enjoy the last day on the ship, so we stayed onboard. We had very tasty Dan Dan noodles for lunch from World Cafe, relaxed by the Main Pool, then had farewell drinks hosted by Cruise Director Kate, who could not be more perfect for her position.
Last dinner on the ship, was a very tasty meal in the Chef’s Table restaurant .

Day 6: we woke up in Sete. A port town on the French Mediterranean referred to as the French Venice.
Here we selected the day trip to Carcassonne, a hilltop UNESCO medieval town.
I had always wanted to visit and was not disappointed, we will hopefully go back in the future and stay a few nights.

We did not get to see Sete, but those who did thought it was a charming not commercialised town.

Back on board Viking Saturn, there was sunset table tennis, shuffle board and mini golf, followed by pre dinner drinks in the lovely Explorer’s Lounge.

Not a bad day!

Day 5: Marseille We arrived in to Marseille early morning. There are some fantastic shore excursions available here, but we decided to have a slower day. We spent the morning on the ship, I had some quiet time in the Nordic Spa enjoying the wellness pool and spa. Then it was a lovely lunch from the World Cafe, sitting on the deck looking over Marseille. Then an afternoon walk around a small part of the city. Back onboard, it was pre dinner drinks in The Living Room, followed by a beautiful dinner in Manfredi’s. Another tough day 😉

Day 4: Monaco 🇲🇨 It was a great stop in Monaco. A 20 minute helicopter flight over Monaco, Nice, Eze, Menton and more. Afterwards, we walked around this easily walkable city. It was great to see a lot of the construction which was happening where I was here last year had finished. Then we spent late afternoon on the shop looking back at the city. Not a bad day!

I’m so lucky to be spending seven nights on the beautiful Viking Saturn, cruising from Rome to Barcelona . Viking Saturn is the newest in the Viking fleet. It is a smaller ship, carrying up to 930 guests. The ship has a beautiful calm, open and light feel. The design, colours and furnishings are lovely, it feels more like a hotel.

We have set sail on our 7 night ‘Iconic Western Mediterranean’ Viking cruise.

Day 1:
We boarded the beautiful Viking Saturn at Rome’s port at Civitaecchia and sailed overnight.

Day 2
We woke up at Livorno, a port town on the Tuscan coast.

Our first shore excursion was an afternoon trip to visit the lovely town of Lucca.

More Roma 🇮🇹. There is a lot of work going on here in preparation for the Jubilee next year....

I’m very lucky to be back in Italy, spending three days in Rome before I board the beautiful Viking Saturn for a seven night voyage. More to come on that tomorrow…..

Many thanks to Viking Cruises and Singapore Airlines for this fantastic experience which I get to share with my husband.

We have been to Rome a few times, but not for many years. We did a fantastic tour of the Colosseum, Rome Forum and Palatine Hill yesterday. More exploring to come today.
