From the iconic red and yellow flags fluttering in the breeze to the tireless dedication of our lifesaving volunteers, the tradition of lifesaving in Australia is woven deeply into our coastal communities. For generations, lifesavers have stood as guardians of our beaches, ensuring safety and fostering a sense of unity and pride among beachgoers.

These everyday heroes, often volunteers, spend countless hours training and patrolling to keep us safe, embodying the true spirit of community service. Their impact is felt far and wide—from the bustling city beaches to the secluded coastal hideaways, lifesavers play a crucial role in making our beaches a welcoming and secure place for everyone. 🌊🌊🏖️🏖️

For the better part of 70 years, Claude Jeanneret has been keeping Surfers Paradise beach safe. As another patrol season starts, Surf Life Saving Australia has released its latest "alarming" drowning statistics.

Have you heard of the ancient wonder of the Lake Clifton thrombolites?

These fascinating, round rock formations resemble the earliest forms of life on earth, created by microbial organisms which photosynthesise, by obtaining calcium carbonate from the water, to form these structures. Dating back to over 2000 years old, thrombolites can only be found in a few places in the world… and you can see them for yourselves here in WA!

Head to Lake Clifton, 1 hour and 40 mins south of Perth, part of the Mandurah, Peel region. We suggest making a day of it and stopping along the way at the Waroona Visitor Centre & Gallery, a short drive from the thrombolites, whose friendly staff will guide you to all the other fabulous activities to explore within the region.

NOTE: When visiting, do not leave footpath or boardwalk as irreparable damage to the thrombolites will occur if tread on.

Seba’s song watching over the Aurora Australis earlier on this week! 😍

“An aurora can be like a cat at your door. It comes calling in the middle of the night, you get out of bed and then it is no longer there! Well, last night was not one of those nights, and boy did she show up!!

I am glad buddy @‌viratshah and I answered the call, and he suggested a location I could not say no to - Seba's Song by Thomas Dambo

We waited for a good hour plus for the real show to start, past midnight, but it was absolutely worth the wait!”

Australia's quarantine regulations are designed to protect the country from exotic pests and diseases that can have a significant detrimental effect on humans, animals, plants, and the natural environment. Despite being known for its relaxed lifestyle, Australia takes national quarantine very seriously. The government enforces strict quarantine laws that cannot be negotiated. Australia's position as an isolated island nation, surrounded by vast stretches of water, means that it is particularly vulnerable to new and emerging pests and diseases. As a result, the goal of national quarantine is to prevent the establishment and spread of these dangerous organisms within Australia. Through its stringent quarantine measures, Australia aims to maintain its unique environment and protect the health and safety of its citizens and visitors alike.

The government imposes rigorous quarantine rules that are non-negotiable.

Vegemite – an iconic Australian spread that has been around for over a century. With its one-of-a-kind flavour and nourishing benefits, it's no surprise that it has become a staple in many Australian homes over the years. But what's the story behind this beloved spread? It turns out that its origins are quite interesting. From its humble beginnings as a food made from brewer's yeast extract, it has evolved into a cultural symbol. Today, you can even find dedicated Vegemite pages on social media platforms like Facebook. It's clear that Vegemite has earned its place in the hearts and pantries of Australians and beyond.

In 1919, amidst the turmoil of disrupted British Marmite imports post-World War I, an Australian company Fred Walker & Co. tasked Cyril Callister with a mission - to craft a tasty spread from yeast discarded by breweries.
