Ponant Kimberley Cruise - Day 13 - Broome / Cable Beach and Home

After a wonderful 10 days it was time to disembark in Broome (a very smooth process Ponant arranged) and spend some time exploring the Cable Beach Resort and the stunningly beautiful (and swimmable) Cable Beach.
A transfer to the quaint Broome Airport, and smooth flight home to be back with the family by bedtime.

was beautiful and I highly recommend a couple of nights here at the start or end of your cruise adventure. Amazing location, rooms and food with inviting pools and recreation facilities to enjoy.

Ponant Kimberley Cruise - Day 12 - Lacepede Islands

The weather gods did not play nice today. The 30 knot winds prevented us from getting to the nature reserve of the Lacepede Islands, as it was too unsafe to launch the zodiacs. We had extra enrichment activities scheduled, watch the birds form the deck of the ship, saw Brown Bo***es and Frigate Birds, and enjoyed the ships spa facilities that afternoon with a pedi and a massage before the final night gala dinner. It was lovely to have all the crew presented to us to thank, including those who work "in the shadows" as the captain said.

Ponant Kimberley Cruise - Day 11 - Montgomery Reef / Freshwater Cove

Lets tick off the list - Shark, dolphin, green sea turtle, sea snake, various birds, saw them all around the magical Montgomery Reef today. A hot day and a little bit of chop to navigate in the zodiacs, but the spray kept us cool. The reef is submerged at high tide so we had a small window of time to see it exposed and the life it supports.

This afternoon at Freshwater Cove we were welcomed to country by a Traditional Owner, heard his stories, learned about the many uses of the plants in the region and how resin is made, saw a HUGE termite nest, a nesting Osprey, a fresh water spring coming from a tidal rock platform, the list of experiences for our two stops today goes on and on. Completed with a walk thru the smoke from a eucalyptus fire on the beach to cleanse us before we reboarded the Le Laperouse.

How beautiful 🤩

24 hours of daylight at the northernmost point in Europe ☀️

This atmospheric phenomenon has many names – “Polar Day”, “Nightless Night” – but the most common is the “Midnight Sun”.

This week marks the start of the Midnight Sun season at the North Cape, the northernmost point in Europe sitting at about 1,306.3 miles from the North Pole. The sun won’t set again until after July 31.

Have you experienced this natural wonder?

Ponant Kimberley Cruise - Day 10 - Collier Bay

A stunning archipelago of islands, birdlife, unusual rock formations, today was all about Talbot Bay and the Horizontal Falls. Due to it being a Neep tide at our visit, the waters were not thundering, so plan your cruise to be here on a Spring Tide if you want to see the falls at their powerful best. Nevertheless, 2 more wonderful zodiac cruises with the Ponant Expedition Team in the most glorious weather in beautiful country. Finally made it for a swim in the ship swimming pool today (and lapped against the water jets for a while) before enjoying a pre dinner tour of the suites on the ship - so spacious and homey. They were lovely. My camera could not capture the stars tonight, but Kyle gave a fabulous astronomy and dreamtime star talk.

Ponant Kimberley Cruise - Day 9 - Hunter River / Porosus Creek

A lot of time in the zodiacs today with two trips (cruises, no landings) each nearly 2 hours long. But what a wonderful way to spend all this time with the Ponant Le Laperouse Expedition Team - more and more and more information, stunning scenery and views, insights and learning and appreciation of this beautiful region.
The saltwater croc in these photos is the one I saw, but the image is from .alexandre as with my camera he was barely visible. What a cutie!

Steve did these trips in shorts and t-shirt with sunscreen. I used long legs and long sleeves to make sure I did not burn - and being on the water and on the move all the time I was surprised that I was not as hot and uncomfortable as I thought I would be - it was quite pleasant. Don't overthink your "expedition" clothing - wear what is comfortable for you in hot weather and what is best for your skin. The wide brim hat was great for me, but a baseball cap and sunscreen worked just as well.

Definitely worked up an appetite today for a nice cold French Champagne and afternoon tea back on the ship!

Kenya - Ancestral home of the safari.
It could be argued that "safari" was born in Kenya, with the primal drama of lion, leopard, and cheetah hungrily following a sea of wildebeest so immense, at times it seems the earth itself is moving. The annual Great Migration, Africa's single most famous safari draw, occurs every September and October as animals travel between Tanzania's Serengeti and Kenya's Masai Mara Park reserve. The park takes its name from famous nomadic Masai people, who wander as freely across the Kenya–Tanzania border as their cattle. There is more to Kenya than safaris, though: from coral reefs and white-sand beaches to tea plantations (plus a tourism infrastructure that can get you to all of them) you're not likely to get bored.

The Big-Five, Serengeti, and the nomadic Masai are just some of the experiences you'll have in Kenya with G Adventures.

Ponant Kimberley Cruise – Day 8 - Swift Bay / Mitchell Falls

Today was highlight after highlight after highlight. The helicopter ride over the Mitchell Plateau to stunning waterfalls and swimming hole, more Aboriginal Rock Art and amazing stories, then the sunset cocktail party. Hard to pick a winner today - it was all magic. Thankyou Ponant for these amazing memories.

Ponant Kimberley Cruise – Day 7 - Careening Bay

Careening Bay was named by Lt Philip Parker King after his ship, the HMC Mermaid, was careened there during his third voyage of discovery in 1820.
Our group was going ashore after lunch today, so we had an easy morning on board Ponant Le Laperouse. We attended lectures, grabbed a coffee and read in the Observation Lounge for a while (ate more food!)
The highlight Boab tree was very cool, but it was just as much fun watching the hermit crabs run around, discover a Bower Bird nest and just soak up the warmth under clear blue skies. The Expedition Team on board again excelled today with their knowledge, warmth and expert presentations.

Ponant Kimberley Cruise - Day 6 – Ashmore Reef Technical Stop

As this ship is French flagged, and this itinerary starts and ends in Australian ports, Maritime Law requires that at some point every 30 days the ship leaves Australian waters – and by sailing to Ashmore Reef we enter International Waters. This stop is made on every Darwin - Broome sailing, with an alternative stop made on the Broome - Darwin direction itinerary.
I cannot tell you about the abundant wildlife that is supported by the reef as we had a medical emergency on the ship and a crew member had to be airlifted to Broome Hospital, so we were delayed overnight, off loaded him into a helicopter (no landing pad on this ship - he was winched up - in 25 knot winds its was incredible) and he is now recovering well we are told. The Captains communication with us around this event was excellent - informative enough, professional, and stopped all the gossip and supposition. The crew quickly facilitated alternative on board activities and programs,
Today we also spent time in the Blue Eye Lounge listening to a talk on sharks (the lounge is not open all hours - just for events and some nights after dinner as per the daily planner
I loved how every now and then we would see a zodiac "fly" past our window on this cruise - they were lifted by crane in and out of the water for every excursions and stored on Deck 7 - we watched them going up and down and the crew jumping into them from Deck 2 as they passed by.

Tour Japan: The past is the future
Nowhere on the planet do the modern and the ancient coexist more harmoniously than in Japan. Kimono-clad ladies chatter on futuristic phones while blurring by on the fastest trains in the world; thousand-year-old Zen temples are dwarfed by seas of skyscrapers; and neon signs are reflected in flooded rice paddies studded with green. Here, the future and past are like roommates in a Tokyo-sized apartment, sharing a space that seems too small for either but which miraculously accommodates both in a harmony that could only be Japanese. Endlessly fascinating and fascinatingly foreign, enigmatic Japan is a culture irresistible to Westerners, one that hits you like a sumo wrestler at full tilt.

Something a bit special - a bit luxe...... Geluxe! With perfectly paced itineraries, one-of-a-kind accommodations, and comfort at their very core, these premium active trips are adventure at its finest. Only with Adventures

Japan is a country made for the adventure seekers. It bridges modernity and ancient traditions like almost no other place on earth. From discovering the villages outside Kyoto on foot, to kayaking Japan's deepest lake, to walking the breathtaking Michinoku Coastal Trail, this adventure invites you t...
