🏴 We're back at Best Life's Expedition HQ after a week exploring North Queensland with the ResilientQ team from the Office of the Queensland Chief Entrepreneur.

🇦🇺 Heading WAAAY out west, the destinations of Croydon Shire Council and Etheridge Shire Council welcomed us with open arms as we adventured their hidden bike trails, explored their waterways and soaked up the kind of hospitality only Experience Outback Queensland, Australia can offer.

🌅 From frigid Milky Way starscapes to toasty hot springs at Talaroo to the wonders of Cobbold Gorge Tours, we set out with a tribe of 12 innovators to understand, brainstorm and contemplate the issues facing the shires, when it comes to tourism and building the resilience of the local communities.

🙏 Thank you to everyone who helped out, joined us for the Campfire Conversations and made this one of the best missions yet. Here's to the next one!

Winter is simply magnificent here in Queensland and last week the team from Datamine got to experience the best of it.

✈️ Looking for a way to challenge and bind their team of Senior Leaders, their 19 adventurers, who'd flown in from all around the world, embarked on our epic 3-day adventure through the Moreton Bay wilderness.

🌞 After finally scoring some sunshine and light winds, the team set off from Raby Bay on the 56 km paddle 🛶 past pods of dolphins 🐬 inquisitive turtles, and were welcomed ashore by North Straddie's resident sleeping koalas 🐨

Day Two dawned, and after a sumptuous breakfast from Taste of Straddie, the team tackled the sandbars and cranking waves between Amity Point and Southern Moreton Island to test their kayak surfing skills 🏄‍♂️ before a relaxing paddle through the mangroves, and pulling ashore at our campsite overlooking the bay 🏕️.

🌅 Their last physical exertion for the day, was a 100m climb up Big Sandhills to enjoy the sunset from the top of the dunes before wrapping up the conversations around the campfire full of laughter and good times.

🥂 The team then locked in for one more paddle, 12km up the coast to Tangalooma, where a beautifully curated buffet and cold champagne the reward for their considerable efforts.

❄️ Ten Things I Learnt in the Arctic ❄️

It's getting to that time of year again when our minds start to drift to the frozen plains of the Arctic Circle 🧊.

This blog details the good and the bad (also good 😉), from the extreme adventure that is the Tri-Nation Arctic Challenge 🛷.

Our expedition at the beginning of the year was arguably one of the most grueling adventures to date, with temperatures getting down to a nerve-freezing -45°C 🖐❄️. Literally, I couldn't feel my fingers for 2 weeks post-expedition! 🥶

Here at BLA, we LOVE more than just reaching the summit 🏔️; it's the journey to get there that teaches us more about ourselves as humans 🌟.

Our latest Summit to Sea might not have been as epic as Cris’s (Madalin Cristea) latest undertaking, but it was the ethos and drive behind our Office of the Chief Entrepreneur: ResilientQ to Bundaberg in March, when we took 14 adventurous minds from the top of Mount Walsh to the waters of the Great Barrier Reef 🏝️.

We’ll be jealously watching Cris’s journey from afar! 🌊💪

🚕 We've got a history of exploring the far-flung corners of Planet Earth, and it all started with the simplicity of overland travel around Africa in Colonel Mustard, our ever-reliable 1986 Land Rover Defender.

👊 Fast forward to 2024 and we've partnered with the team from Expedition HQ and to fully equip our Ineos Grenadier with everything we need to take our office on the road for three months in June 2024.

🌵 We're heading across the Simpson Desert a few times, to the rainforests of North Queensland and the Snowy Mountains for some winter snow action to really experience life on the road again, across the remote parts of this great land.

BRISBANE - Stay overnight on one of QLD’s sand islands

Most accessible to Brisbane, and our personal favourite, is Moreton Island. Waking up next to a pod of dolphins as the sun rises is our kind of lazy Sunday. The endless activities available and the plethora of camp zones are why Moreton Island is just that bloody gorgeous.

SYDNEY - Soak up the history of the Red Hands Cave

The 8km grade 3 hike takes you to one of the Blue Mountains' best-preserved Aboriginal cultural sites. This site is very special to local Aboriginal people - it was a ceremonial cave for the initiation of young warriors and was painted between 500 - 1200 years ago.

MELBOURNE - Follow the flowing rivers of the Otways 🌌

No, this is not Cairns; this is the Great Otways National Park, full of waterfalls and flowing rivers. This stunning national park is definitely a road trip away, but you won’t get beautiful views like this on the Yarra.

🇳🇵It's that time of year again - Everest Base Camp is open for summit season and our trekkers are on the way.

🏔️ They're three days into the ten-day adventure to get to the 'Bottom of the Top of the World.

After a few weather-related issues the team took a chopper from Kathmandu into Lukla, 'The World's sketchiest (AKA most exciting) airport, and hit the trail to Phakding.

Keep checking in over the next few days, and get inspired, as they climb higher and higher to where the mountain gods call home. It's one very special expedition!

The wild Tallebudgera Valley weather wasn't enough to dampen these adventurers' spirits. 🌧️

Over the weekend, we took 28 of YPO's best adventurers to a retreat deep in the Gold Coast hinterland. Enduring the conditions like seasoned pros 💪, the team undertook a 3-hour return hike to a FREEZING COLD waterfall 🥶(16 degrees) before returning to base camp to master the art of traditional spear and woomera carving. 🌲

The night was concluded with a feast before indulging in America's best invention, the s'more. 🍫🔥

On day 2, we began with a team yoga session, before heading to the Northern Rivers Rail Trail in torrential conditions for one last epic adventure in the rain. 🧘‍♂️🌧️

BRISBANE - Kayak the upper reaches of the Brisbane River 🛶

Luckily, the 'brown snake' does not stay brown forever. An hour west, the river begins to show signs of life. With greenery along the banks, you wouldn’t have a clue it was the same river. This weekend adventure is best done in half a day, finishing with a pie from the Fernvale Bakery 🥧.

SYDNEY - Hang glide along Sydney’s South Coast 🪂

When the winds are aligned, gliding hundreds of metres above the Pacific Ocean is the exact kind of out-of-comfort-zone experience that we love. Make sure to give HangGlideOz a call prior to leaving to check availability.

MELBOURNE - Ride the O’Shannassy Aqueduct Trail 🚴

Looking to get the legs spinning without risking blowing a gasket this weekend. The 30km trail is a gravel-paved track following the aqueduct through forests and ferns🌲. The Yarra Ranges are full of other adventures and are only an hour forty-five from Melbourne.

❗️The Long Defeat: Failing in the Mountains❗️

Owen Clarke's story of resilience on Tunguraha, a volcano in Ecuador, is the grit and determination that we strive for at Best Life Adventures, where every challenge is an opportunity for growth, even in failure. 🌋

"The Long Defeat" is a great representation of the journey, rather than the destination. Facing heavy rain, mud up to the shins, wet and slippery trails. 🌧️🥾

The contrast between the quickness of failure in sports and the prolonged nature of defeat in the mountains is an extremely well described and not documented enough in outdoor media. 🏞️

BRISBANE - Attempt the South East ridge of Mt. Barney 🏔

The South East ridge of Mt. Barney is the most strenuous and exposed route to the summit, featuring sheer cliffs and rock faces for a large portion of the 14km out-and-back track. For those seeking a the challenge, the trail is located an hour and a half's drive from Brisbane.

SYDNEY - Take a photo at Burramoko Ridge 📸

For those who can stomach it, 'Hanging Rock' is exactly as it sounds, jutting out from the surrounding cliffs. Always stick to your limits, but what if...............

MELBOURNE - Stay overnight on a cliff face 🌌

We know we showcased Mt. Buffalo last week, but this was too good to pass up. Sleep, dine, and drink with only a piece of canvas between you and a 200m drop.

🌧️ Three days of torrential rain wasn't enough to stop the legendary crew from ENTAG having their Best Life Adventure anyway!

🥶 The sumptuous surroundings of Habitat Noosa provided the perfect backdrop to escape the worst of the weather, learn the art and mastery of Wim Hof-style focus with Zac from and sample the microbrewery to celebrate surviving the icebath.

⛰️To wrap up two days of adventures of the mind, soul and team strategy sessions, we scaled the heady heights of Mt Cooroora on the fringe of Pomona for the obligatory "we bloody did it" photo.

He only bloody did it. Russ Cook (AKA Hardest Geezer) just finished running the ENTIRE length of Africa 🌍

Talk about an absolute mission. One we've followed for the past year, or 352 days to be precise.

A seriously massive undertaking that has crossed 16 countries, tackled the Sahara, bandits, stolen vehicles and passports and almost came a cropper when the penultimate visa was almost refused.

🍹 But Russ and the team stuck to the task and ended the mission on the coast of Tunisia with the well-documented Strawberry Daquiri as just reward.

The extreme challenge began at South Africa's most southerly point on 22 April, 2023.

MELBOURNE - Tackle The world's highest commercial abseil 🧗‍♂️

Widely regarded as Australia’s best big wall, many climbers embark to tame Mt. Buffalo. A guided abseil is the best way for beginners to 'learn the ropes', on Australia’s El Capitan. While the drive is long, it's scenic and gives you enough time to build up your nerves 🚗🏞️.

Hey adventurers! 🌟 If you love the outdoors as much as we do, ' Expedition Director has some awesome pro tips to share that will make your hiking experience a breeze! 🏕️🥾

Mother Nature can be beautiful but unforgiving. It's important to check the weather prior to your expedition but always plan for the worst. 🌩 If it's already too late, having the right gear can make the difference between being uncomfortable and being in trouble 🧥. Having a good outer shell should be at the top of your list when heading out for an adventure 🏔🏖.

Best Life Weekend Adventures 🏃‍♂️

Another weekend of classy adventures is coming right up. We have a good range this week, with an extra special one for you Melburnians.

BRISBANE - Bush-bash your way to Panorama Point 🥵

Whether it's the lack of water, Gympie Gympies 🥬, or the heat, this trail will try to stop you. But, as usual, all hard things reap rewards, and Panorama Point is no exception. I would personally choose to soak up the views and stay overnight, but if you are time-poor, this one can be done in 8-10 hours return.

SYDNEY - Hike the Curra Moors loop track 🥾

This challenging hike is a perfect way to get out and test your mental stamina while also taking in stunning scenery, such as Curracurrong waterfall. Located an hour's drive south of Sydney, this adventure should take between 6-7 hours.

MELBOURNE - Stay overnight at Wilsons Prom 🪨🏖

This is a special one. The southernmost tip of Australia’s mainland is scoured with remote and hard-to-reach campsites that are begging for explorers to come and find what they have to offer. This escape is like no other, and while it is a bit of a drive away, an overnight stay is sure to make it worth your while 😎

We're back from the second Queensland Chief Entrepreneur ResilientQ Mission and explored the Bundaberg region on our adventure that took 12 entrepreneurs from Summit to Sea. You were all incredible adventurers who took on everything with a skip and a smile.

Five days of resilience, community-building adventures that pushed their comfort zones, scraped a few knees, and injected the fear of God into a few (our Founder, Ben included).

We heard from world-record setting Eleanor Carey, spent time with kids from the local schools and discussed the big topics of youth engagement and climate sustainability.

If you feel like you missed out - you bloody did! But fear not, we're recruiting for Mission Three in the next couple of weeks - so keep your eyes on our social channels to find out more.

We couldn't have done it without the expert mastery of Dan Willersdorf, the support of and the local knowledge of and and to Advance Queensland for embracing adventure as an engine for change.

🐰 Easter Long-Weekend Adventures 🐰

We know it can be tough planning outings during this busy weekend, so we've given you a few adventures to really earn those choccies 🍫

Hike Mt. Ngungun for sunrise 🌄 - Half day

This one has to be on your list, no matter your age or ability. The Mt. Ngungun summit track is an easy 3km hike, with only 170m of elevation gain. Despite the ease, the views at sunrise are out of this world.

Canoe at Lake Wivenhoe 🛶 - Full day / overnight

Lake Wivenhoe is a huge catchment of adventure located just over 1 hour from Brisbane CBD. One of our favorite adventures out here is hiring canoes and paddling along the shoreline for a few hours. The wildlife 🦜 and quiet are sure to bring on a sense of comfort.

Ride the Darren Smith path 🏖 - Half day / full day

This coastal bike ride is one of Australia's finest, spanning 48km from the southern tip to nearly the northern end of the Gold Coast. Feel free to just do a section: Coolangatta to Burleigh is our pick. Ride past world-famous surf breaks 🌊 like Kirra point and magical spots like Tallebudgera creek.

Binna Burra to O‘Reillys Retreat 🌲 - Overnight

This great walk is widely considered Gold Coast hinterland's best overnight track. Whether you choose to do it in 1 day or 2, watching the sunset from O'Reillys Retreat is a must-see.

Another Friday, another group of absolutely cracking adventures to help spice up 🔥 your weekend plans.

BRISBANE - Mountain bike at Daisy Hill 🚲

Amongst the tall eucalypts and Melaleuca forests 🌲, you'll find trails for all skill levels. Only located 25 mins from the city and depending on your tailbone strength, this adventure should take between 2-4 hours!

SYDNEY - Kayak through Sydney Harbour 🛶

This weekend adventure is an instant classic, giving spectacular city views from the deep blue harbor. P.S., we recommend the sunrise kayak for the best experience. Traffic depending 🙄, this adventure should take you around 3 hours.

MELBOURNE - Learn to surf at Torquay 🏄

Nothing gets the heart pumping like a new skill, so take advantage of this world-class break and learn to ride the wave. Depending on your tolerance levels for failure, this adventure should take between 3-4 hours including driving.

How insane is this video we stumbled upon 🌊

A group of adventurous kayakers get a very up close and personal with orca's🐬. we know the statistics say there have never been any reported orca attacks in the wild, but there's no way you could feel fully comfortable being in the water with the ocean's apex predator 🐋
