What a day!!! We started with 2 very sick travellers with the flu, a delayed flight from Rome to Paris, the delays got worse due to a software upgrade for flight controllers in France. Then car accidents on both freeways from the Airport in to Paris. After checking in to our accommodation late and with most restaurants closed or in the process of closing, we braved the -5 temp to get some of the finest Parisienne cuisine available.

A slower pace today. Braden found Basilica di San Clemente a few hundred metres from the Colosseum which isn't well known but what a great little gem it turned out to be. The current Basilica was built in the 1100s on top of a cult temple of Mitha which was in turn built on Roman Ruins which was destroyed in 64AD. Doesn't look like much from the outside but well worth a visit if you are in Rome. Photos are not allowed but I think someone may have mistakenly got a few along with other churches and dinner.

Another big day in Rome starting the day with an underground tour of the Colloseum then to Palantine Hill, the Roman Forum and a tour of the house of Augustus. Then to the Victor Emmanuel monument and dinner at Pancrazio near where Julius Caesar was killed. A quick stop for more Gelato on the way back to the hotel and now time for bed. The tours of the Colloseum and House of Augustus were simply awesome.. So much history

Busy morning exploring Roma saw the amazing Sistine Chapel Vatican City Castel St Angelo and the Pantheon finished with a climb up the Spanish steps averaging 18000 steps a day Phew finished the day with a night visit to the Colloseum and a yummy Italian dinner and of course the obligatory gelato before heading back for the night.

Spent the morning in Venice before travelling to Rome on the Frecciarossa Fast train. It was almost dark by the time we checked in to our hotel so had dinner near the Trevi Fountain before some Gelato, then back to the hotel. Early trip tomorrow to Vatican City

A great day exploring Venice, St Marks Square, the Basilica and Doges Palace, the weather was good and slightly warmer than Austria. Long and busy trip today from Salzburg to Venice. The scenery through the Alps was spectacular however the train was packed and we ended up sitting in the Isle until the conductor moved us to first class for the rest of the trip. Our accommodation in Venice is excellent we even have a couple of small balconies over the canal. We ended the day with Pizza and Pasta by the Rialto Bridge.

Visited the Hohensalzburg Fortress today which has impressive views over Salzburg and the Alps. Hard to imagine that it is nearly 1000 years old. The boys celebrated their last day in Salzburg in true Austrian style with Wiener Schnitzel, Apple Strudel and more Kaiser Schmarrn. Off to Venice tomorrow
