Did you hear?! 🐧👇

Earlier this week, a record 5,219 little penguins swum into shore at Phillip Island Nature Parks] Penguin Parade and waddled up the beach to their burrows – the highest number recorded since 1968!

“Before this, the record was 4,435, which was set last year, with the average number of penguins coming home each night in 2021 ranging from around 700 in July to 2,300 in November.

Scientists believe an abundance of food close to shore and the population’s preparation for an Autumn breeding attempt may be behind the soaring penguin numbers.” Phillip Island Nature Parks]

Posted • We took off to Bunurong Country (Phillip Island) a few weekends back in the new LandCruiser LC300 and captured our adventure with the fam. Travelling with all the kids means we need quick and fun places without too much lining up or making them sit still for too long.

Wooooah. What a year!

2021 in the Cape Cabin family has felt a little like being put through the washing machine and dryer and coming out the other side a completely different shape and size to what went in. The jury is still out on what will take shape as this new version comes to light but for us there has also been a multitude of silver linings and upsides… Connecting more as a family without the distractions that typically accompany life in our busy household of 5. Realising that we are stronger than we think. More capable of adapting to change than we realised. And that we are still learning each other’s instruction manuals and continuing to grow and change and evolve as a family.

As we prepare to sign off for the year and begin to imagine what this new iteration of life looks like, we wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all the families who have supported Cape Cabin over the past year. Particularly those who have been so patient and understanding when their long awaited holidays have been cancelled due to lockdowns.

We are dreaming of a 2022 with more time to connect with family and friends. More time to unwind in our happy place at Cape Cabin and the chance to welcome an array of new and old families back to enjoy the space as much as we do.

And most of all, sending all our love for a healthy and happy new year. Your support means the world to us ❤️

Today we met a neighbour at Cape Cabin who was telling us a story about the house up the road that Bruce built. He told us that Bruce was a real beaut and it made me squeal with delight as we are just so happy to be back in our little island home away from home and able to host all our beautiful Melbourne families again at Cape Cabin over the summer months ahead.

In the words of our new friend, good on ya Melbourne and hoooroo lockdowns and catastrophic weather events - we’ve fair dinkum earned this long weekend in the sunshine ☀️🌈♥️

We have recently installed some beautiful new cork at Cape Cabin and they really are something else. Better still is that we can even help you to arrange your very own private yoga or pilates session in the space by our favourite island gurus 🧘‍♀️☀️❤️🤸

Cape Cabin may be a wonderland for kids but don't let this deceive you... it’s really an elaborate ploy to let our small guests think that it's all about them so that their adults can relax! Shhh. I promise we won’t tell if you don’t 🤫
