Does Anyone like Slow Play?

Slow play.

The tedious terror of the fairway.

The time-wasting torment that grinds golfers the world over.

Every player has experienced slow play on some level, whether they’re stuck behind a dawdler or they’re the dawdler themselves!

Slow play can turn a quick 18 holes into a saga.

No one likes breathing down another player’s neck or wasting a day waiting while the group in front ambles about at glacial speeds.

Slow play can drive a wedge between players & sour a day on the greens.

In extreme instances, it may even cut a game short, as patience snaps & tempers flare.

It seems only fair that the average golfer be able to play at a reasonable speed in a reasonable manner.

But then again, what if there are those out there who like slow play?

What if there are golfers who lack the drive to hustle from hole to hole?

The kind of golfers that prefer to pause & really relish the smooth sweep of the lawns, the sweet scent of grass clippings, the lazy chirp of nearby birds.

What if these golfers use the game as an escape from the very same efficiency that shapes the rest of their lives?

Golf may be their only opportunity to literally slow down.

Their leisurely 18 holes that drive others to madness may be their version of meditation.

I will take some heat on this, however, I don't care who this offends, I stand by it.
Revolution or war is coming, sooner or later! The Government today no longer follows the Constitution or represents “We the People”!! Many of you are a bunch of greedy cowards! You raised the cost of living so high that both parents are always at work, rather than spending time with their children (single parents stand no chance) . You took God out of schools. Parents were told 'No you can't discipline your kids'. Well, now most of those kids are rude and out of control. You shall reap what you sow! We have taken a whole generation and turned them into selfish, entitled brats who have no respect for people, property or authority! You deem people with terminal illnesses and some with only a few months to live…fit for work!!! You allow our veterans of war to go homeless and hungry but give out millions to illegal aliens, and foreign aid!!! You save drug addicts over and over again but refuse to help our elderly who can't afford to pay for their medication to stay alive. You bend over backwards to be politically correct, too scared to say enough is enough, in case you offend someone. You put the retirement age up so people must work until they drop. You take care of prisoners and give them everything under the sun (food, medical, education, representation, money, rehabilitation and yes even s*x change surgery) yet you cause the elderly, those that have paid their debt to society and their families, to go broke caring for them either at home or in a nursing home... THINGS NEED TO CHANGE

I hope that many of my friends will have the courage to post this article. If you've taken offense, you're part of the problem...not the solution. Time to stand up for what is right.

To the uninformed, golf might seem a simple game.

You swing a club, hit a ball, chase it down the fairway.
Keep hitting it until you get it into the little hole at the end, then repeat up to 18 times at a leisurely pace.

But in reality, golf is far from simple.

As now retired pro-golfer Ben Crenshaw said, “golf is the hardest game in the world.

There is no way you can ever get it. Just when you think you do, the game jumps up and puts you in your place.”

Golf requires technical skill, endurance and dedication.

In any given game, a golfer needs to consider a range of factors before taking their first swing: environment, weather, other players, fairway conditions, distances to cover and any hazards in their way.

In addition, the golfers must possess enough confidence to continue to perform in what can be (especially during competitions) high pressure scenarios.

Golfers must be creative of mind and have a singular focus on their goal, and through this focus obscure any potential distractions.

The ability to distance yourself emotionally is also important, as is an immunity to embarrassment - not even the best get every shot as they should!

If golf was an easy game, players wouldn’t spend lifetimes perfecting their swings. Golf is a challenge in concentration, stamina and mindset.

Golf is serious yet social at the same time.

Golf is many things, but it’s never easy. If it was, we’d all be pros.

How did your ball get there?

You had it all lined up. Your swing was smooth and sweet (or so you thought).

The wind was right, the sun just so. And yet somehow your ball ended up way over there. It went left then swung right, like a Melbourne city driver turning across traffic. It doesn’t make any sense at all.

This strange event is called slicing the ball and is all too common among new players. It’s usually caused by flawed technique and can be extremely frustrating.

Slicing sends the ball from left to right (if you’re a right-handed player) and as it moves sideways the shot loses distance and creates sidespin. Unless you know what to look for, attempts to correct the slice can lead to, well, more slicing.

Here’s four ways you might be setting yourself up for a slice without even realising:

1. You’re all about the upper body. A good swing must use your hips! Relying on the brute force of your upper body and underplaying your lower half will almost always result in a slice. Your swing should come from turning your hips first, followed by shoulders, arms and hands in a smooth motion.

2. Your alignment is out. Don’t overcompensate by aiming left to correct a right sidespin. That’s only going to make your slice worse. Always shoot in the direction you want the ball to go – straight ahead!

3. Your grip is as floppy as a fish. A weak grip has the potential to disrupt your swing and bring on a slice. Make sure you’re holding your club firmly, but not overly tight, with your hands in a neutral position.

4. Your clubface is on an angle. You should aim to hit the ball with a square clubface.
This will result in a clean and strong forward motion. Hitting your ball with an angled clubface will send it shooting off in all directions.

The slice can be an infuriating & perplexing predicament for new golfers, but by refining your approach to your swing & taking into account these measures you can take positive steps towards minimising slicing & maximising driving, which will make for a much more enjoyable game.
