ONE-ON-ONE PHOTOGRAPHY TUITION
https://naturesimage.com.au/workshops/one-on-one-tuition/
After being forced to postpone 4 times (!!) due to rain, I finally met River and his dad Tim at Military jetty yesterday for a day of photography tuition. At 15, River already knew so much his camera settings, but still needed some help getting the combinations right - especially for his favourite subject, birds in flight. It turned out to be a perfect day for it, and after sorting out the theory, we had plenty of opportunities to practice with some very active bird-life.

On Sunday I co-hosted a fun half-day workshop at Wildlife HQ zoo, along with Luke Smith from Nikon. Our attendees got to wander the zoo with some of the best new Nikon camera bodies and lenses, capturing shots of some of the residents. After the workshop was over I went back into the zoo to get a few shots of my own.

AFRICA: THE NORTHERN EXPLORER PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR 2026

Hot on the heels of my Tanzania tour next year, we also have the Northern Explorer to which takes us to NAMIBIA, ZIMBABWE AND SOUTH AFRICA. We visit iconic locations including Etosha National Park, Chobe, Victoria Falls, Caprivi and lots more. We cap the adventure off with three days on Manyaleti Reserve - adjacent to Kruger but even better because we can go off-road for even closer wildlife encounters. We already have a few takes for this tour so we expect it to sell out. CLICK THE LINK BELOW for more information: https://naturesimage.com.au/events/africa-the-northern-explorer-photography-tour/

TANZANIA: THE GREAT MIGRATION (PLUS ZANZIBAR!) 2026
While I've been busy working through my photos from the amazing India tour, there has been plenty of forward planning happening behind the scenes. Now we're ready to announce our first African tour for next year - a return to Tanzania to see a whole new perspective on the Great Migration. This tour departs in FEBRUARY 2026, when the massive wildebeest herds are a little further south and right in the middle of their calving season. Yep - thousands of newborn wildebeest joining the herd! Of course we will expect to see the usual amazing array of wildlife - elephants, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, zebra, impala, warthogs and over 100 bird species. If you saw it on 'The Lion King' you're sure to see it for real in Tanzania!

WILDLIFE HQ: PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP NOVEMBER 29TH
In my role as 'Teducator' for Ted's Cameras Maroochydore, I will be hosting this special event with Luke Smith from Nikon. It's a half-day workshop at Wildlife HQ Zoo at Woombye (next to the Big Pineapple). Luke will be showcasing some of the latest Nikon bodies and lenses, and demonstrating some of the amazing features including animal detection autofocus. Bring your own SD card because you can borrow cameras and lenses and take them for a test drive around the zoo. Just a few spots left!

A few impressions of Kibber Village which was our home for four nights in the Himalayas. The second photo (window) was my first daylight view...and really not much of a view at all as it was frozen over. Apparently the minimum overnight was -29 degrees! Due to the low oxygen. it seemed like a bit of hard work while we were there. Now I can only look back in awe at an incredible experience.

Despite all the grand photo opportunities of the India tour, there was one little event that provided something just as special. I have never stayed at real altitude before (Kibber village is over 4100 metres above sea level). So waking up to these little icicle patterns on my window was something totally new for me. All it took to finish these off was to change them to black and white and add a bit of contrast, and...voila!

One of the most extraordinary experiences of the India tour was in Ranthambore National Park. Our touring party was broken up into smaller groups, each visiting different zones of the park in the search for tigers, without much luck. One group saw a family of tigers the previous afternoon...the best sighting of the tour so far. So on this outing, along with our host Pradeep Singh, we went back to the same location and saw...nothing. Everyone knew where the tigers were but for a long time they could not be seen through the forest. Then one by one, the younger tigers got up to stretch their legs and (lucky for us) headed in our direction. Finally we got our opportunity as this magnificent Bengal Tiger rested on a rocky ledge less than 15 metres from our vehicle, and we were in the perfect position to get the shot. I don't get emotional very often when taking photos but as we drove away I had to hold back a tear or two as I absorbed what we had just seen.

I've been so busy with 'everything else' since I got home from India, I have barely had time to edit a lot of photos. I'm a long way from sharing a day-by-day pictorial diary of the tour. So here's another sample to keep you interested for now...an incredible variety of great photo opportunities in a fascinating country!

INDIA TOUR: WHAT AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE!
Well I got home from India a couple of days ago, still catching up on sleep and just getting started on the photos. What an incredible tour! There was plenty of wildlife of course, but the chance to surround ourselves with the sights, the culture, the people (and the curry...so much curry!) made this tour unlike any other I have ever done. I have plenty of images and stories to tell, so you can expect to hear a lot more about this tour in the coming weeks. Thanks to Guiding the Wild and Pradeep Singh for creating this amazing adventure, and all the fine people who joined us.

We are reaching the end of stage 1 of our India tour. Like every tour I do with Pierre Duval and Guiding the Wild it has been packed with highlights and some great photo ops. From the Indian culture (and food!!) to being face-to-face with Bengal Tigers, wild Rhinos and rare apes...I will have plenty of stories to tell. In a couple of days we start heading for the mountains and the 'cold' stage 2 of this great adventure.
