When it comes to the Pilbara landscape there are icons and there are icons. The usual icons are those pushed to the general public in cars and coaches or those towing caravans.

Think Karijini and its gorges. Spectacular no doubt - if you don't mind sharing them with the masses and camping behind bollards.

Rest assured, Campfire Escapes' icons are far removed from the usual.
They are more remote and harder to get to, and in most cases where we are on station tracks, no other vehicles are seen for days. In our book the journey there is as iconic as the destination.

So for our Gascoyne/Pilbara odyssey in July 2024 we'll be crossing major river beds, scaling ranges, (You won't take your 4WD higher in WA.) exploring station tracks to fantastic indigenous art and traversing trackless river beds for kilometres to stunning campsites nestled beside waterholes at the foot of towering red rock cliffs.

All our campsites are bush campsites with no bollards and no facilities. Bush dunnies and showers are the go. Self sufficiency an absolute necessity.

But for all that you will have the security of travelling with guides with over 45 years experience in remote 4wd travel. That means the logistics, comms, medical and emergency support, mechanical and navigation are all taken care of.

Which leaves you free to immerse yourself in this spectacular part of Western Australia - where all you have to think about is 'What's for dinner?' and 'Is there enough memory in the camera for all the pics you'll want to take?'

Throughout the trip we'll take a stack of photos to send to you at journey's end to share with family and friends. And not forgetting our famous Mad Hatter's dinner party to be held en route.

If all this tickles your wanderlust and you fancy 17 days away from the wintry south, call Andrew on 9317 2344 or 0418 919 590 or Nick on 0409 100 681 for an adventure you'll never forget.

Wildflower Roaming

How good is it to live in a globally unique state like Western Australia?
While the nation's wildlife (with a few exceptions) transcend borders state to state, WA's floral base has sprouted from the primordial soup in an amazing diversity of shape, size and colour that is intrinsically linked to specific environments within our vast state and an enormous percentage appear nowhere else in Australia.
Environments like Fitzgerald River NP on the South Coast with around 1800 endemic varieties - a floral hotspot of world renown, or the Midwest where a seasonal floral carpet rolls out in a southerly sweep from the Pilbara, or north to the tropics where the boab is king.
This uniqueness gives us bragging rights we exercise regularly even though many city dwellers have only seen this abundance on screen or in travel magazines because getting to places like the far South and North require planning and plenty of time.
Not so with Campfire Escapes and the Midwest where the aforementioned carpets spread from the roadside off under the mulga and into the mysterious distance.
We can take you there and camp amongst it.
All you need is your 4WD, camping gear, a camera and your sense of adventure.
Simply take the first step and earmark four days from August 24th to 27th to join Campfire Escapes as we go wildflower roaming across the best the Midwest has to offer.
Call Andrew (Plugga) at Off Road Equipment on 93172344 or Nick on 0409 100 681 to book your spot in the convoy and we'll take it from there.

Well what a trip that was, just back from a Nullabor run including the Transline, and coastal driving as well .
Dust, mud, remoteness, great people, sensational sunrises and sunsets.

Campfire escapes will also be doing a Wildflower trip for 4 days at the end of August. Please send in an expression of interest and we can give you more information.

Gus Luck goes to Dr Hicks
This is no regular visit to the GP.
At the end of June 2023, Campfire Escapes will be following the Gus Luck Track northeast to Siberia ( an early WA gold discovery - not beyond the wilds of Putinland) and from there to well east of Laverton inone of our favorite regions of the Great Victoria desert.
There we'll discover a hidden secret in Th Dr Hicks Range and follow in the footsteps of Frank to Hanns K**b.
On the way we'll visit the Helena and Aurora Range, immerse ourselves in a wonderful slice of gold mining history, explore and Aboriginal tool making site and follow the recorded wanderings of the ubiquitous Frank Hann, the East brothers and later explorer/ track maker, Len Beadell.
As wild and remote as this region is, our trip is camper trailer friendly. And where the track grows faint, we'll leave the campers at camp and explore by vehicle or by foot.
All going according to plan, we'll finish our trip with a long gaze at the endless horizon of the Southern Ocean.
If this piques your thirst for adventure, get your name down for the trip of a lifetime with Campfire escapes. You'll be inn the capable hands of experienced bush travellers who know the country well and know how to have a good time. Think crystal clear nights around the campfire and great company under a star lit canopy and our famous Mad Hatters dinner party.
Spaces will be limited so book early to secure your spot with Andrew on 9317 2344 or 0418 919 590.
