The Aurora team is so proud to be walking for the third time with the NFIA Patron’s Walk for Charity 2024 and this year exploring the stunning Kangaroo Island!

This group of incredible people have gone above and beyond and raised over $390,000 for medical research and veteran support. and Gallipoli Medical Research Ltd are the fortunate beneficiaries of these funds.

After a massive effort with training on the lead up our amazing BGS Kokoda trek team had a very early start today in Brisbane then recapped the campaign history with their trek leaders to then set off on their adventure today. All are now into their night locations, are in good spirits and getting ready to hit the track again early tomorrow🙌

Day 6 on Track - Today was a big day from Agulogo/Brown River through some flat muddy swamp then up to beautiful Nauro Village with it's amazing views, then up into the infamous nine-false peaks to the top of the Maguli Range! From there some more up and more down down into Ofi Creek for lunch then up and over Ioribaiwa Ridge and into Ioribaiwa Village for the night. A big effort by the team! All pushing through and almost there!

Day 5 on Track and our awesome MATES 2024 Kokoda team are into their night location at Agulogo/Brown River this afternoon after a big day! They hit the ground early from Efogi 1 and took on a muddy down until crossing the river and up to Efogi 2.After a break they had a steep trek up Mission Ridge and onto Brigade Hill. Here they had a beautiful service to remember the battle of Brigade Hill and pay their respects to all those that fought or were lost here and throughout the PNG campaign. Packs back on then for a very long down to a river crossing and then up to Menari village. After lunch they took on the very hot steep climb through Menari Gap and saw the wonderful views before climbing down 'the wall" and through the muddy swamps into Agulogo. All doing well and in good spirits.

Day 4 on Track and so veeeery close to the half way mark early tomorrow morning! Today the team trekked from Templeton's 2 to Templeton's 1 and then up Mt Bellamy and across the highest point along their trek. From there a lovely downhill (but not for the knees) through the moss forest into 1900 Creek. After a break, a short steep up and then a big push toward Naduri Village. A steep down after lunch and then a big up around a waterfall and they are now into their night location in beautiful Efogi 1. Tomorrow is always an emotional day on track with a service on Brigade Hill so keep them all in your thoughts. They send their love and are in good spirits. Aurora and MATES thank all of you that keep the home fires burning so that these amazing trekkers can take this challenge on to raise money for such a worthwhile cause. You are such a big part of this team. Stay tuned for more updates to come team!

Day 3 on track - A massive day for the team today with very hot conditions. Into their night location tonight at Templeton’s Crossing named in honour of Captain Sam Templeton. Team in good spirits and travelling well.

Day 2 on track - Our amazing MATES Kokoda trek team are now into their night location Alola Village 🙌. After an early start from Deniki they took on a little bit of up and a little bit of down, until meeting the river then a steep up up up to Isurava village. After a break they made their way to Isurava Battleground. A beautiful service and battle brief standing amongst the pillars of the campaign - Courage - Endurance -Mateship -Sacrifice. Such a moving tribute to those that fought here. They again called ‘packs on’ and tackled a steep up on their way to the long walk for Day 2 on track to beautiful Alola Village. A massive day and they all did so well and are in good spirits - other than us having to give them the Wallabies and All Blacks rugby results from yesterday 😂 We were able to pass through all the massive support from home on socials that the trek leaders will relay over dinner tonight. Day 1 on track - After an early start this awesome crew landed at Kokoda Station. They had some time visiting the museum, the monuments around the plateau and hearing the stories from their trek leaders as they ‘stood in history’. An unforgettable experience. They are now into their night location after some very hot conditions then a downpour moving into camp. All doing well and in good spirits Xx
