Well…..H E L L O!!

Yes it’s been a while. It’s been a very busy summer season with lots of lovely guests = lots of house prepping. Add that to an everyday job + juggling all else, the socials suffer…… + I’m very looking forward to a restful Easter 💤

A few Sommarhus updates:

• Next availability from Sunday 7 April (second week of Vic school holidays). Min stay 4 nights. Max guest 4.

• We are closed for June/July

• Bookings are now open until end of the year.

• Sadly we are down to one lonely chook + I think it maybe time to say goodbye to our chook friends!! We haven’t had much luck with life span or egg production with this new little crew + may give it a rest for now. Sorry kids 😢

• BUT we welcome well trained dogs + remember to book direct via DM to save on those booking fees + shout yourself brunch at or a fancy cocktail at .sally instead 👌

We’ve strong WIFI, strong coffee + a very peaceful private space for you.

After a quick trip to Melbs yesterday, I’m wondering if anyone actually works from an office anymore?? I learnt so much about so many businessy things just by sitting on a tram + ear wigging. Actually I really wasn’t ear wigging but am kinda astounded the amount of info people do share in a public space!!!

Yes, I am officially too country for the big city!!

Been a while between 📬

It’s winter, it’s quieter than quiet, it’s been a good time for a bit of a hosting hiatus. Coupled with a temp full time working gig, I’ve quickly worked out my ability to juggle (well) post 50 just ain’t what it used to be 😬

But back on the tools again today, + it was mighty good to dust off the cobwebs + have our little house guest ready. The sun was beating down on the back deck, topping up the last of the Bali tan + you could smell all the signs of Spring in the air. Mood lifting 🙌

It’s easy to forget until days like this just how lovely our little house really is. Albeit, this hiatus will continue after this weekend due to works on the neighbouring property.

Bookings are now open from October including Melb Cup weekend. Do take a peek + consider a trip down the GOR in Spring to our little piece of loveliness 🤍

Port Fairy📍

Gosh our sweet little town has been well showcased this weekend thanks to the , a cast of a thousand visiting sausage dogs + visiting humans including the ever lovely (jump on her page for the race that stops our town).

It’s a beautiful time of year. Chilly to the bone but there’s something about winter by the sea that just fills your cup.

We’ve some exciting news re our bookings happening very soon - keep an eye out for the link to a new Aussie booking platform whose ethos I love - “heartful hosting” 🤍. The platform will negate all fees payable by guests = a few extra dollars in your pocket. Times are tough but taking time out to rest + restore should always be a priority.

RETREAT / a place of refuge, seclusion, or privacy.

Late today on a whim we packed an overnight bag, jumped in the car + headed for a night away…….to our own little Sommarhus. To be honest, it’s been a heavy couple of weeks + the juggle of work v family life is a little unbalanced. We needed to escape.

Arrived + threw the bag inside the back door, flicked on the fire, popped the vino on quick chill + headed straight to the beach with bare feet + woolly jumpers. It was dusk, the wind was up + not a soul in sight. The doggo bolted with the joy of being back by the sea, we smiled at just being back in our happy place.

The BEST way to start a retreat…….followed very closely by a hot shower under the stars.

Our little town has been bursting at the seams over Jan with happy holiday makers. Best summer ☀️

But come tomorrow she’ll quieten down + those without school commitments can enjoy a fairly quiet town, score a good car park + a table at our favourites.

Did you know we have our own chooks at S’hus? 🐓

When you stay, we’ll ask you to kindly chook sit our girls. They are 1000% friendly, love eating ALL your unwanted tucker + will most likely lay you an egg or two for your troubles. Finding their gifts can be a bit tricky but worthwhile + a humble reward.

Oh yes, their names are Millie + Mae + they are kinda the stars of the show 🤎

Waking up + just cruising ☀️

Gee we’ve been blessed with a solid week of goodness. Let’s be honest, summers can be so fickle here so you take all the good whilst you can with much zest!! May it continue + may the sun shine on your beachy getaway.

We’ve loved early rises for peaceful reads + coffee on the deck before doggo walks + beach swims - cup filling stuff 🙌

Here’s to another year of sharing our little house with like minded souls. Big thanks to all our new + bank of super loyal return guests, we love what we do + feel very blessed 🤍

Merry merry ⭐️

Our very understated deco’s are providing a little seasonal cheer. If you’re a bit grinchy, I assure you they are not too cringy!

This weekend is available for anyone wanting to escape the crazy + just reconnect or restore a little.

Arrive Friday, depart Sunday.

AND inbetween:

* Check in before jumping on the bikes for your Friday aperitif at the MERRIJIG INN & KITCHEN] garden bar

* Roll back into town + hit the Twilight Christmas Market at Railway Place until 730pm

* Head down to .sally for a pizza + crafty beer. Just yum.

* Back to Sommarhus for an evening spent on the deck stargazing + listening to tunes

* Sat morning grab The Age from the front lawn + slowly peruse over a coffee made in house by your love whilst they prepare your local (as in our girls) eggs on sourdough

* Stroll down the street for that second coffee + a grab a sneaky piece of baklava next door from

* Hit the stores + Farmers Market to finish your Chrissy shopping

* Afternoon walk out to the iconic lighthouse on Griffiths Island + for the daring, a salty dip 🙌

* Home via MERRIJIG INN & KITCHEN] garden bar to hydrate

* Fen for a v special dinner to celebrate all that you’ve achieved in 2022

Upside of all the rain, our little oasis is so lush + very green. After spending the weekend in Melbs + my 8 yo commenting whilst driving through the burbs “there’s no trees mum”, I realise just how lucky we truly are.
