Day 4 & 5 of our Mega Lekker Escape had us travelling North West of Johannesburg to the Malaria free Madikwe Game Reserve and Jaci's Tree Lodge. Set on stilts this tented camp is connected by wooden walkways. The hide provides magnificent photo opportunities at the waterhole whilst the deck offers breakfast with a view of abundant wildlife quenching their thirst. Game viewing is exceptional in this area of the 75000 hectare reserve. Wow!
Day 3 of our fam trip included a trip to Soweto by Tuk Tuk and an amazing dinner at Marble. High end dining is so affordable in South Africa. Definitely worth taking time in Johannesburg to visit Soweto and Maboneng.
Day 2 of our South Africa Mega Lekker Escape and the group got to explore the fascinating area of Maboneng with its art followed by a stop for food and drinks at the local Four Ways Market. A great way to explore a different side to Johannesburg.

Gastown is Vancouvers oldest neighborhoods, full of iconic restaurants, quirky pubs and historic spaces. We explored the area on the Gastronomic Gastown Tour. This progressive dinner was a great way to sample some of the legendary restaurants and their most popular dishes as well as learn some of the history behind the foodie district.
We’ve had a few rainy days in Vancouver but it hasn’t really stopped us getting out and about. Today we did the City Highlights tour including Capilano Suspension Bridge Park during daylight hours, Stanley Park & Granville Markets. We finished the day with at Flyover Canada which is a really cool 4D experience at Canada Place.
Wow! Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is well worth the visit at any time of the year but the Canyon Lights display during December & January is spectacular.
Firstly, we crossed the world-famous bridge, lit end-to-end with a changing multi-colour display and sway high above the illuminated Capilano River. We journeyed into a glittering rainforest and walked high above the forest floor on a transformed Treetops Adventure. Finally, we walked along the twinkling cliffside pathway of Cliffwalk where we finished the night with a hot chocolate before heading back into Vancouver.
It’s been nice to spend a few days in Vancouver. An easy city to explore at leisure on foot but today we opted to rent bikes and pedal our way around Stanley Park including a stop at the aquarium to miss the passing rain showers.
A trip to the Canadian Rockies wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the iconic Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. The frozen lake was a buzz with activity! Skaters, cross country skiers, snowshoeing, sleigh rides - it was all happening. The ice castle sculpture & ice bar was incredible. I walked the perimeter of the lake (6km) which can only be done in winter while the lake is frozen. We finished the day with high tea in the Fairview Dinning Room.
We had such a fun night out at the Calgary Saddledome for some ice hockey action between the Clagary
Flames and Philadelphia Flyers.

Johnston Canyon receives thousands of visitors daily even in the winter. We opted for an evening guided hike for something a little different and to miss the crowds. We hiked the trail along suspended catwalks lighting the way with our head lamps. At one point we all turned off our head lamps and immersed ourselves in the peaceful stillness of the winter night. So many stars in the clear sky! Once we reached the cascading Lower Falls we stopped for a hot chocolate & maple cookie before making our return. A really cool experience and great for all fitness levels.
There’s something very magical about Banff in winter. The festive lights are beautiful. We did lots of wandering around town sampling some really good restaurants and bars. The local Roam Bus is also a really easy way to get around town. Banff Gondola operates all year round and is a great spot for lunch with a view. A short scenic walk (in ice cleats) from town along the Bow Falls Trail is the Bow River Falls.
