Just another spectacular day on the coast, these sunrises are something else atm
We've travelled to Japan for over 30 years, learnt lot's and simply would love to share our experience to help your travels. So Guago was born. Bye for now.

Thanks for joining us here at Guago. So what does GUAGO mean, simple, it’s Get Up And Go. We’ve been fortunate enough to have travelled to Japan many times over the last 30 years and thought we could give back by providing a resource to help other people with planning their first (hopefully of many) trip to Japan. We also felt that there were so many resources out there for younger people who were
travelling to Japan but very little focussing in on what may be of interest to a slightly more mature audience (read that as over 45). You’ll find us here on facebook as Guago, our website is www.guago.com and we’re also on Instagram as please do all the usual likes, follows etc because we are going to keep adding content every week to our pages and social sites and even if one tip saves you money or stops you from missing an experience then I think it was probably worth your time. So if you are thinking about heading to Japan but not sure what to do, what to eat, where to stay, how to get around, can you communicate, how much money do you need, etc etc let us do some of the heavy lifting for you. Plus, we aren’t looking to make any money from you, we have both loved Japan and almost everything about it since our first trip, we want to help you find that joy, wonder and sense of mystery that we have found in our travels to Japan and to share those experiences with you. Don’t forget to follow us on instagram

Just a super cute little visitor after the rain, lots of these little guys have been coming into the house lately, very cute
Hidden treasure
Extreme close up, sky on fire, well not quite, just an amazing amount of colour in the sunrise today reflecting off the clouds.
Doesn’t get better than this, early morning artwork
Our little Suzuki at the end of the tunnel
Occasionally the giant is allowed to mingle with the people. Waiting for a train I realised how much bigger I am to almost everyone.
Proof that it used to be relatively quiet sometimes in Tokyo. This is a throwback photo from 2018 pre pandemic, pre tourist crush. The other half of team Guago snuggled up to little Hachiko right in front of Shibuya Station (JR) on an unusually snowy morning.
Yes it does snow in Tokyo, but not today, throwback photo pre pandemic, in the grounds of Meiji Shrine. No matter how many times we visit, this beautiful spot is an oasis of calm
Here’s another unusual spot in Tokyo, it’s a restaurant and cafe that is built on an old disused train station. Great views and walking distance from akihabara. One of the many little discoveries we’ve made as we explore this amazing city.
Halfway between Nakameguro and Shibuya is the amazing Fabcafe a unique makerspace that has all sorts of toys, and great food and coffee of course. They have laser cutters, 3d printers and more. Plus they host events most evenings where people can meet and learn or discuss different topics. Think that this is a really cool concept and would be amazing to have close by. Walking distance from either Shibuya or Nakameguro
Airport food - Japanese style. Before you zip out of the terminal, grab something to eat because it’s nothing like airport food anywhere else, it’s delicious, it’s fresh and it’s inexpensive. This dish here, about $10 Aus but only because I went overboard with optional extras. As they say - oishi
The incredible Starbucks Roastery in Nakameguro is definitely worth a visit, especially if you are in Shibuya as it’s only a short train ride. 3 levels of coffee perfection including a Teavana and a cocktail lounge up top. Super busy when we were here but was nice to find a couple of seats and take a break.
Our newest design - New in Japanese Art series of coffee mugs is this Shin-hanga print on a white coffee mug.
This design features a very famous Japanese Woodblock Shin-hanga print by Goyō Hashiguchi (1920) of “Woman Combing Her Hair” famously featured in the launch of the Apple mac in 1984.
Shin-hanga is a style of Ukiyoe that had a unique look because of all the additional colours that the artist brought to the work.
The print is featured on both sides of the mug, so that both you and the people with you will see this beautiful print as you drink your coffee, tea or cocoa.
These mugs make great mementos for your travels to Japan, or for lovers of fine art in particular the Ukiyoe style that Japan is so famous for.
• Design shown is printed around mug in full colour.
• Size: 11 fluid oz or 325 millilitres
• White gloss ceramic
• Microwave and dishwasher safe
Great Christmas, Mothers Day, Fathers Day or Birthday gift. Or just do it for someone you care about.
Would also be a great end of year teacher gift especially for your Japanese language teacher.
Each mug is packed in an individual box.
Other Japanese themed mug designs available in our Etsy store.
We use our USA print partner for all USA, Europe and Japan orders. Australian orders are printed in Australia and delivered by Australia Post. - https://guago.etsy.com/listing/1460595422

Found the remains of this little guy on the beach this morning, first time I’ve ever come across a nautilus
Morning tea time, actually morning coffee time. Dusted off the French press for a nice coffee to go with these delicious shortbread biscuits. Plus it’s warm in the sun in this spot.

You know things are returning to balance when Bunnings sausage sizzle is back in full swing.
Just a lonely traveller, actually not that lonely had a bunch of his mates washing in thanks to the onshore winds.
Still they are an amazing animal that just lets life take it wherever it wants to go.
Careful out there.
Meet the newest member of the family, another Suzi.
After much searching we’ve found our new outboard. Can’t wait to to get her in the water.

Riding the Yamanote line in Tokyo. Throwback to 5 years ago today. Best way to get around Tokyo. . . . . #Japan #tokyo #explore #travel #over40 #over50 #japantravel #japanawaits #visitjapan #日本 #東京 #guago #guagojapan #visitjapanjp #yamanoteline
Down the end of our street this morning, water is super clean at the moment, plus the resident fish seem to be increasing in size and number. Not in Japan btw this is Sunshine Coast, Australia no traveling for us for some time to come unfortunately. . . . . . . #Japan #tokyo #explore #travel #over40 #over50 #japantravel #japanawaits #visitjapan #日本 #東京 #guago #guagojapan #visitjapanjp
Shibuya Scramble Crossing. Yes, this is the busiest pedestrian crossing in the world and is definitely something that you need to see when you visit Tokyo. Continuing our series of posts recommending locations and day trips in Japan we feature the Shibuya crossing. Super famous, super busy and always worth visit. This crazy crossing is located just outside the Shibuya train station (JR LIne) and is also an extremely popular meeting point at the Hachiko statue which is right next to the crossing area. So whether you are into people watching or just amazed by the sheer size of Tokyo's busiest neighbourhood, put the Shibuya scramble crossing onto your list of Tokyo sights to check out. If you need a breather you can have a coffee at the Starbucks cafe which faces the crossing (it is always a challenge getting a seat but makes for a great view if you are successful). Shibuya is an interesting suburb of Tokyo, best know for it's cutting edge young fashion but also some great low cost dining options (we'll share some suggestions in an upcoming blog post). Tokyo is struggling right at the moment with Covid19, hopefully things improve soon and we can once again visit but also so that the locals can get back to their normal crowded but organised way of life. . . . . . . #japan #tokyo #explore #travel #over40 #over50 #japantravel #japanawaits #visitjapan #日本 #東京 #guago #guagojapan #visitjapanjp #shibuya #scramblecrossing
Sakura is cherry blossom season. The official dates change each year due to climate but roughly starts end of March and goes for 2 to 3 weeks. Starting in the south first end ending in the north, means you can follow the cherry blossoms across the country. While this year is once again out for foreign tourists remember that if you want to experience the beauty of Sakura then plan your trip around early April and you’re bound to see lots of amazing blooms. . . . . . . . . #Japan #tokyo #explore #travel #over40 #over50 #japantravel #japanawaits #visitjapan #日本 #東京 #guago #guagojapan #visitjapanjp #sakura #cherryblossom #travel
