Millicent Visitor Information Centre A wide range of facilities and services make Millicent the ideal location to accommodate for all visitors.

Millicent is a prosperous and vibrant community in the heart of the Limestone Coast region of South Australia and Millicent is a great place to visit, relax in or explore. Millicent was proclaimed in 1870 when a township developed on the limestone ridge in the centre of the newly drained Millicent Flats. It is named after Millecent Glen, wife of one of the early pioneers and daughter of the Anglic

an Bishop of Adelaide. Millicent moved into the 20th Century as a rural centre and its identity began to develop when pine plantations were developed in the ranges near the township. Millicent is the western gateway to the Kanawinka Geopark and to some of the region’s most unique attractions. Canunda National Park, one of the largest coastal parks in South Australia, is only minutes away, as are the Tantanoola Caves, often hailed as the prettiest caves in Australia. Millicent also acts as a gateway to the Southern Ports, which include Southend and Beachport.

Ancient and awesome, the Tantanoola Caves Conservation Park is one of few wheelchair accessible caves in Australia, and as those who’ve scratched beneath the surface can attest… it’s also one of the most spectacular! 🙌

Did you know that trees with hollows are really important?

Tree hollows provide critical habitat for our fauna and they take a really long time to form. You also can’t get the same benefits that a naturally made tree hollow provides compared with an artificial nesting box.

“Small hollows can take 120-150 years to form. Their narrow entrances are suitable for small animals, such as the Eastern Pygmy Possum

Medium hollows can take over 200 years to form. These are favoured by animals such as Leadbeater’s Possums and Swift Parrots

Large/deep hollows are only found in old & overmature trees (deteriorating, dying or dead). They’re occupied by Glossy Black Cockatoos and other larger animals such as Masked Owls”
