Was destined to be in the Travel Industry.

1989 - when the love of travel began, spent 54 days in this baby known as 'Tut' travelling all over Europe with some pretty awesome people.

We slept up the top and partied and cooked down the bottom whilst our trusty driver Dave took us from one place to the next.

The Egyptians should know better than to let an Aussie loose with their prize possession and livlihood - horse and cart! I was allowed to take control through the streets of Cairo.

The crowds, the noise, the car horns didn't bother the horse, although put a bit of fear in me! We made it to our destination with no harm to animal or human.

Egypt is a place that heightens every sense you have, sight, smell, touch, taste and sound....if you've thought about going - just go, you won't regret the decision

GUATEMALA (2000)
The true essence of travelling is getting in and mixing with the locals and that’s why we always passed up riding on a ‘tourist' bus and headed for what is affectionately known as the ‘chicken bus’ the one the locals ride with all their wares heading to the market, live chickens and all....

....AHHHH the freedom of backpacking meant we could stop where and when we liked. After a 20km walk through the jungle between Kisoro (Uganda) and Jomba (Zaire) we pitched the tent at an abandoned Mission. Lit a small fire to cook dinner: tomatoes, breadcrumbs and minestrone soup, clearly the 'pantry' was drying up.

MOZAMBIQUE (Africa)
......you are lucky! Dead lucky! Are not the words you really want to hear as you arrive at the Mozambique/Zimbabwe border.

We had just driven Malawi to Zimbabwe through the infamous 'Gun Run' during Mozambique's civil war. You had to travel in a convoy under the protection of the Army due to high risk of being shot or abducted. Me, Andy and our German driver Uwe we had hitched a ride with, somehow lost the convoy and arrived at the border on our own, hours before they were expecting us......
(just one the many borders we had been detained at during our travels!)

ps: not an exciting photo but the joys of travelling with film cameras, click and hope you captured the moment!

UGANDA - part 2: 20hrs on a Ugandan train.
...as we set off the jungle slaps the side of the train, it's like we are cutting the track for the first time. We slow down several times through little villages, not completely stopping for people to jump on or off and to buy food.

Interesting task as you hang out the window of a slow moving train to buy a bag of samosas, throwing money then catching your food as the vendor runs beside the train and tosses the food to you.

Then we stop at a station and interact with a young girl standing all alone waiting for the train, dressed in her finest pink dress and this is where two totally different worlds meet......

What happens next?

PS: me all cashed up with Ugandan Schillings about $50usd worth!

Lots of people heading off on holiday in the next few weeks. Busy day packaging their documents up.

Yep I am old school so you still get printed docs with luggage tags and ticket wallet but I am also up with the modern way of putting it all on our APP

You get to choose or you can choose both

Happy travels .

UGANDA 1989 - 20hrs in the 1st class: Kampala to Kasese

The train had been ransacked, seats were slashed, windows broken, fan not working, no water, no electricity, plenty of cobwebs and the only way to keep the window open is by propping it up with a piece of sugarcane.

Can't see out people everywhere all over the corridors with much chatter and yelling and somewhat confusion as everyone tries to find their compartment.

The train finally shudders forward and the adventure begins. Trains in Uganda are old and slow but functional.

I can remember looking at each other thinking 'well this is an adventure' as the train doesn't seem too stable on the tracks as we rock from side to side and we hadn't even gained any speed yet.

What happens next…..?

DID YOU KNOW....The Rock of Gibraltar has roughly 250 Barbary Apes living there (that's the one on the right (btw)). Originally from Morocco and the only wild monkeys in Europe.

PS: also in the Rock is a secret chamber known as the 'stay behind cave', the site of top secret WWII plot called Operation Tracer.

PS: excuse the hair in the lens, yep back before digital cameras!

DID YOU KNOW? La Boca is a neighbourhood in Argentina known for its colourful houses. They are this colourful becasue the settlers couldn't afford paint so they used the leftovers that was used to paint the ships in the dock.

Also known for the Caminito where tango dancers perform in the street.

DID YOU KNOW? In 1996 I visited the Jesuit Ruins in Paraguay, South America.

They first arrived in 1588 the Christianise the indigenous population. This ruin - The Mission of Santorum’s Trinidad del Panama was established in 1706.

It is always a privilege to be able to walk the steps of ruins so old with so much history. One of the many loves of why I travel.

Let me take you on a journey....

Travelling is a passion that lead me to a career. I’ve covered most of the globe, with travels in over 60 countries across five continents, including living in four countries. These travels have included the spectrum of hovels and hotels and modes of transport as I’ve enjoyed the backpacking lifestyle through to the good life. Chances are, as we talk about your travel needs and desires; I’ll have some personal experience of the destination and/or packages we’re putting together. With over 20 years industry experience, working in travel agencies in three countries, including establishing over a dozen retail outlets, a corporate division and a head office and the fancy title of Vice President – I have a wealth of travel knowledge and contacts at my fingertips. I have two great passions in my professional life – a love of organising travel and the joy of providing great customer service.
