PSA : SCHOOL ZONES: TOMORROW!!

Road authorities are warning drivers not to fall into an annual "speed fine trap" in the lead-up to school's return, which sees Aussie parents penalised at a much higher rate compared to the rest of the year

In NSW, four back-to-back pupil free days will take place from tomorrow until February 5, with children to return on the 6th. These days are designed to help teachers and staff plan for the term ahead, without the presence of students.

While there will be no kids on campus across that period, school zones will be in operation from tomorrow and school zone speed limits will be enforced. According to the NRMA, "pupil-free days continue to be a major speed trap for motorists".

I had a wonderful and amusing 'first', yesterday. 6am airport run from Terrey Hills. Organised by a Vietnamese lady for her elderly, non-English-speaking, parents. Said Vietnamese lady having had to leave earlier for her own flight (and chose to drive and park, which turned out to be a big mistake!). She missed her flight due to the lane closures on the Bridge, and was stranded at the Domestic terminal for the day - with an esky of frozen food the airline would not accept on the plane.

Very well aware of the issues on the Bridge, I concocted a route that took 33mins to get her parents to T1 International Terminal.

Use of technology enabled me to make elderly parents laugh at a joke: And, at the departure drop-off zone, help them to understand which check-in desk 'letter' to head to. The appreciation and relief on their faces was priceless... 😀

Back to the esky of frozen food... Redezvous at T2 Departures to load in the car and drop back to her house.

Meaning, in under 2hrs, I had picked up her parents and dropped off her esky of food from/to the same house.

Made me chuckle... and feel good that I had improved someone's stressful travel experience...

One of many aspects of why I love what I have chosen to "do for a crust" in the first phase of my retirement.

My 'PB' is green lights all the way from Newport Lucky & Peps to the last set of lights approaching Sydney International Terminal. And that was via Balgowlah/Military Road!! I had some very excited (adult) passengers let out a unified and steeped-in-dramatis groan - followed by raucous giggles!! 🤣🤣🤣

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah and Yule, everyone!! Or, as the Americans love to encapsulate the festive break, "Happy Holidays!!". :-)

In case you were not already aware, double demerits are now in play in NSW until 23:59, Wednesday January 1st. This isn't just about "Don't speed, or Drink-and-drive". It's also about watching where you park and stop - and the lesser considered aspects such as stop signs, honking your horn, flashing your lights, etc... Traffic cops' KPIs are all about issuance - not collections...

How we don't have a national standard across all road rules is beyond my comprehension. I've always said it's more like being on a continent made up of multiple foreign countries...

If you're planning a trip to Europe in/after 2026, you may want to hold off booking anything until you can determine if Turkish Airlines' Sydney-to-Istanbul direct flight betters suits you.

Reducing most Sydeny-to-Europe itineraries by one stop-over, Turkish Airlines will also be status-matching with QANTAS and including free one/two-night hotel stop-overs.
