Since 2017, Iโ€™ve had the privilege of connecting and assisting countless divers with some of the best dive operators around the worldโ€”and Iโ€™ve loved every moment! But letโ€™s be honest, building an online presence without a website has been quite the journey.

Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™m beyond excited to announce the launch of the new Nomadic Scuba website, ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ซ๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐š๐ง ๐ž๐ฑ๐œ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ง๐ž๐ฐ ๐œ๐ก๐š๐ฉ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ! Ever wondered what type of boat youโ€™d be spending your time on during Africaโ€™s Sardine Run? Wonder no more, if youโ€™re considering the adventure (and I highly recommend it) get in touch and weโ€™ll tell you all about the epic Offshore Africa Port St Johns team and their fabulous services.

What boats are used?

๐ŸŒŠ We use 7.2m & 8m RIBโ€™s with high powered outboards.
๐ŸŒŠ Each vessel is licensed to carry 12 passengers including skipper and guide; however, for the Sardine Run expedition trips only, we have now introduced a limit of maximum 8 people. We have found that a) it is more comfortable on the boat for a smaller group size and b) way more manageable to have smaller groups in-water on any given action
๐ŸŒŠ Our boats are certified by SAMSA and carry all the required safety equipment including oxygen, trauma kits and communication devices.

Getting back to it. We are heading to the Galapagos at long last, however, Sydney-siders I thought you'd appreciate the heads up on this epic evening event Nicolas Remy and I have planned for the 22nd of August. Check it out and come along for some great insights into diving in Jordan and working as a team during in-person underwater photography competitions. It's free too! Hope to see you there. https://fb.me/e/Ga4BiZ3d

Placing remote lights inside a wreck is a a great way to create depth and make for a more interesting underwater photo.
This image of Aqabaโ€™s Tristar plane wreck involved two off-camera strobes:
1๏ธโƒฃ The first one held by my model Matt Waters, creating the halo just in front of him
2๏ธโƒฃ The second one was placed at the end of the cabin, towards the white wall.

These strobes were two DS230, which I found made remote lighting a breeze: they are very powerful and their light shine from apart, and second, the Ikelite optical trigger is highly sensitive, picking up my on-bard strobes signal from afar, even outside of the wreck.

But successful remote lighting takes more than great equipment: itโ€™s a real teamwork between the lighting assistant and the photographer, with pre-dive briefings, dedicated signals and a feedback loop.

If youโ€™d like to learn more about this, join Matt Waters (Scuba GOAT) and myself for a live debrief for The Underwater Club's first in-person event (22nd August in Sydney, Australia). The entry is free but spots are limited, check for details, DM us if any questions!

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST POST

Hey folks, I'm looking at putting a team together. A team to wave the Aussie flag at this year's Hugy Cup International photography and videography competition being held at NAD Lembeh throughout Dec 23 and Jan 24.

I'm looking for 8-12 divers who can travel for 9 days (dates to be decided as yet), I've broken down prices below and provided an idea of days to travel.

I recently attended the International Photography comp in Aqaba, Jordan, and having now witnessed 'in-person' competitions, I would suggest that if you doubt your capabilities to be competitive, think again. The competitions are definitely open for anyone to give it a crack.

So, if this piques your interest please comment below or send me a direct message, and let's go win some prizes and Aussie Kudos! with Danny Van Belle

A CALL FOR HELP: I think most of you have heard of Gareth Lock and the excellent contributions he, the team and The Human Diver are bringing to the dive industry. Today is the final day of a survey, which is part of a scientific research project into improving the telling of incident stories so that divers, instructors, and organisations can learn from adverse events. The survey closes at 23:59 UTC on 21 June 2023.

This research project is looking for 1000+ divers globally across all levels of experience to complete this survey - so far about 500 have completed the survey.

All details about this survey are available here.

https://form.typeform.com/to/R3kOfxdG

Gareth is really looking for divers who haven't done any training with The Human Diver so if thatโ€™s you, please jump on and contribute now.

Cheers legends!

The protected Eastern blue devil fish are most easily recognised by their banded pattern of blue and white stripes on the body, blue spotted head, blue dorsal and a**l fins, and yellow tail fin and base and pectoral fins. The pelvic fins and rear dorsal and a**l fins are elongated. When blue devil fish spread these fins they overlap, making the fish appear larger. The fish grows to 40 cm in length.
Juveniles are generally a less colourful dusky brown with less prominent stripes or general blue colouration. However, some blue spots on the head and the gill covers and a blue band around the edges of all fins are still prominent. Habitat and ecology
Eastern blue devil fish are a benthic, inshore reef inhabitant. They occur in shallow waters in estuaries as well as in deep waters offshore ranging from 3 to 30 metres.
Juveniles of the species are very rarely seen. The few juvenile individuals that have been observed were found in the back of narrow crevices.
Eastern blue devil fish are solitary creatures that usually live alone in caves, crevices or under ledges during the day. They are most active at night. Little is known about their diet but they are known to feed on brittle stars.
Males are thought to defend a territory in a cave or overhang in order to attract a mate and will drive other males away.
The breeding season for Eastern blue devil fish is between the months of October and March. They lay groups of eggs glued to the underside of caves or ledges until they hatch. Free-swimming larvae, approximately 4 mm long, hatch from the eggs, and settle around reef areas when they have grown to about 10 mm. bleekeri

Recently I had the opportunity to spend a dive trying to capture a good shot of these little fellas. A maximum of a couple of centimetres in size, these twin striped damsels dart around table coral and use it defensively when you approach. This shot is the original unedited (other than cropping) so Iโ€™m super stoked with its quality. I Also find it quite interesting how many different names we have for aquatic life, depending on whereabouts you are in the world. Down here in Australia they are known as Reticulated damselfish (Dascyllus reticulatus) and also as Headband Humbugs.

Our Story - From the top.

Nomadic Scuba has been a dream of mine for over 3 years now. The concept is much akin to many of the other dive booking agencies out there but with a little twist. The idea of a booking agency that not only organizes your vacations for you and removes the burden of ensuring everything is in place, we actually take pride in finding the right product for you. By doing so, everyoneโ€™s a winner! The operator has customers, we do too & you, the customer has a great vacation.

In addition we are specializing in group pro-led expeditions to some of the most remote locations on earth. Kudos to those who dive in virgin territory, Hashtags galore on return to reality, but more importantly, a unique adventure that brings divers together year after year to emulate that source of adventure.

The Nomadic Scuba team have all worked together in the dive industry, we are extremely good friends and we are still self-funding this venture. Show your support, spread the word, like our page, tag your mates.....

Let us โ€œBreathe Life Into Your Adventure.โ€
