Sri Lanka Visa Update

In response to recent developments regarding the Sri Lanka visa process, the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka has addressed multiple Fundamental Rights Petitions challenging the new eVisa system implemented on April 17, 2024. An interim order has been issued, suspending the Sri Lanka eVisa portal by VFS Global, effective immediately. Consequently, the online visa processing platform was made unavailable at 5:00 PM on Friday, August 2, 2024.

The Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators and The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka want to reassure overseas tour operator partners and potential visitors that visa on arrival at the airport is an option in the absence of an operational online visa platform. Travellers without an online visa can acquire a visa on arrival at the airport for a fee of US$ 50. Immigration counters at the airport will facilitate this service.

Additionally, arrangements have been put in place to restart the issuance of Tourist and Business visas through Sri Lanka Missions abroad. If you wish to obtain a Travel Authorization/Visa before travelling to Sri Lanka, you can contact the Sri Lankan Mission in your country.

The ETA platform, which was operational until mid-April 2024, will be reinstated soon for obtaining ETAs or Electronic Travel Authorizations. The ETA system is expected to be operational again sometime this week. More information will be provided once this is implemented.

Bhutan, The Last Shangri-La
