Including this detour in your itinerary is recommended if you have the chance to visit. The trip takes 5 hours round-trip from Auckland. Additionally, I can include a stop at a picturesque farm for lunch in your itinerary.

We made it to Easter Island. It was super rough and it was touch and go as to whether we would be going ashore, but we eventually did.

I booked a shore excursion, I wanted to maximise my chances of getting ashore and seeing as much as possible. It was very expensive, but I didn't care.

Fantastic day!

Some of you may be wondering what happens with your clothing on long cruises?

Well, you have a couple of options. Most cruise lines do have a laundry service, which you can pay for. How much you pay will depend on your loyalty tier. This can take some time to come back to you. Coral Princess is currently running on a 6-7 day turn around.

Alternatively you can use one of the self service laundry on board. There are very well equipped; wahers, dryers, irons, handwashing basins and detergent, and there are usually several located throughout the ship. You will need a token which you can purchase from guest services and in some laundry.

Tip- keep an eye on your times for cycles.

People tend to get a bit emotional about laundry, I'm not sure why 🤣

Pisco, is less visited than Lima but definitely worth a visit. Home to the Nazca lines, Ballestas Islands, flamingos, Tambo Colorado Inca ruins and of course Pisco sour. Nestled between the Atacama desert and the Pacific Ocean it is a unique, otherworldly place.

Lima you were amazing as amazing as always. Despite me still feeling really unwell, you still captured me with your charm.

There is something magical about Peru. The culture, food, history, people and traditions are incredible and leave you wanting more.

Coral Princess is one of the two ships in the fleet specifically built to navigate the old locks of the Panama Canal. Our ship did a full transverse of the locks from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean.

When choosing a Panama canal cruise ensure you know which locks you will be going through as they are quite different experiences.

I ended up quite unwell and spent 3 days in bed after this, but am sharing the photos I did take as they are quite remarkable.

Another early morning start to my work day 4.00am 😛

The internet has slowed down now at 9am as everyone is up and using my bandwidth 😂

So time to take a break, and I'll come back later this afternoon to finish my day.

Sometimes you just need to work around obstacles a little.

Going to America on a cruise?

Here's the process that Princess use:

If you are doing a Cruise shore excursion. Go to the designated meeting point signified on tour shore excursion ticket. Take your Princess medallion, Passport, ESTA, and shore excursion ticket. You will then be processed by US immigration on board BEFORE you are permitted to leave the ship. This is a very slow process.

If you are doing independent travel, you will have a similar process, however you will be given a time to go to the meeting point and will be processed much later than the Shore Excursion people.

HOT TIP: for the first port of call in the United States, book a cruiseline shore excursion, you will be processed much earlier (like several hours earlier) than the independent travellers.

Sydney, Nova Scotia. Not many people are familiar with the east coast of Canada. It has a strong connection with Scotland and France, a long and proud maritime heritage and unique heritage and culture.

Nova Scotia definitely a place to spend at least 3-5 days

Do you get bored on a cruise ship?

That is the amazing thing about cruise ships, you can do as much or as little as you like. There are several options at any given time, so you are spoilt for choices. See the daily newsletter "Princess Patter"

Coral Princess is an older ship, but also a smaller ship, so it seems far less crowded that the ships that take 4,000 passengers.

Personally, my interests usually don't align with what is on offer. So I make sure to bring plenty of activities I like to do. There are so many nooks and crannies onboard where I can quietly sit and read, do some knitting, do some sashiko or do watercolour (the ships movement makes it a bit trickier, lucky I'm a beginner🤣)

There are also activity groups that passengers organise; ping pong, exercise groups, craft, bridge, chess, ukulele and flash mob dancing to name a few.

Or you can just recline in your deck chair, sipping cocktails and relax 🥰

Edgar is my stateroom attendant and he makes sure I have the most amazing experience onboard. He is a consumate professional with a weath of customer service experience and nothing is too much trouble.

Crew are generally away from their families for approximately 9 months to ensure your holiday is amazing. I know it is not our tradition, but please remember to pay gratuities when going on a cruise. There are so many people behind the scenes, whom you will never meet, that make your holiday one to remember ###

It is impossible to conceive of a place that surprises you with another jaw dropping vista each time you turn a corner. But that pretty much sums up Iceland.

Today I visited Thingvellir national Park with its rugged, raw natural beauty. Then onto Gulfoss waterfall (yes Iceland is full of them), a triple tiered waterfall that thunders down 32 metres. Finally we finished up at Strokkur a geyser that the Icelanders say is bigger than old faithful!

Ever wondered what the process is to do your own privately organised tour instead of a cruise ship shore excursion?

Sometimes when you're on a cruise the shore excursions don't have what your looking for or the one you like is sold out.

Here is how it works if your ship is tender transferring passengers.

You go down to the designated area on the ship and collect your tender ticket. These tickets will have the number of the tender you will be on to get ashore. You need to find out in advance what time the tenders start leaving and work out what time you need to be ashore for your tour and plan accordingly.

You then need to wait in a public area until your tender number is called over the public system. Once your number is called you make your way down to where the tender is leaving.

Once on shore you then need to make your way to you tour meeting point before the designated start time.

In my instance today I was in Isafjordur, a small Icelandic village, so you could pretty much walk anywhere. So it was nice and easy.

So the pros and cons:
PROS
- You get to do activities more aligned to your interests
- The are often cheaper and smaller groups
- Some are refundable up to 24 hours before
- Generally very good quality guides, read reviews before booking.
CONS
- They are a bit fiddlier than a cruise shore excursion and can involve extra steps.
- There is no guarantee that you will get to your starting point on time, this would be particularly true in a larger city. Do your research carefully! The cruise line has no obligation to you in relation to meeting an excursion not booked through them.
-If your tour is late to get you back to the ship, it WILL LEAVE without you. And you will need to make it to the next port at your own expense.

Few tips:
-research, research, research. Make sure you know how to get from A to B, what the traffic is likely to be like, what times are trains/buses running and how much do they cost.
- take your passport with you. If you need to get to the next port, you may need it if it is in another country.
- leave plenty of buffer time in there so you can get back to the ship in time.
- have a plan B or even a plan C for if things do go pear shaped.

Today I did a privately organised tour to Dynjandi Waterfall. It was really beautiful and a long way to the top 🤣

Pick your times when going to Iceland. Decide what natural phenomenon you want to see and plan accordingly.

For example I am currently in Iceland when the days are extremely long and the midnight sun occurs. I am not going to get to see the Aurora as there simply is no darkness. The sun "sets" at 12.30 and rises at 2am. In reality it does not really get fully dark.

If I'm lucky a might get faint hints of it at around 1am, but it is unlikely.
