Gone Fishing! Tasmania

Orford is the ideal spot to relax with a coffee and snack (or a leisurely lunch), cast a line from the Prosser River Bridge, or explore nearby beaches like Raspins, Millingtons, Spring, and Rheban. Enjoy a swim, a walk along the sandy shores, or simply unwind while admiring the views across Mercury Passage toward Maria Island.

Take the opportunity to discover the area on foot— the scenic cliff walk from East Shelley to Spring Beach, the historic convict road alongside the Prosser River leading to the ruins of Paradise probation station, or pack a picnic and head to Thumbs Lookout for a meal with a spectacular view

let nature’s masterpiece take your breath away at larapuna 🩷 🧡

The Bay of fires is a pristine hideaway from the Hussle and bustle of everyday life no matter what time of year. On the East Coast Tasmania we celebrate the diverse seasons and how they change the landscape, the produce we eat and the adventures we have.

Summer (December to February): Warm weather and long daylight hours make this the peak season for beach activities, Stand up paddle boarding , surfing, kayaking and swimming are favourites to make the most of the aqua blue waters. This is the season of the freshest seafood including lobster and squid, berries are also abundant. Locally grown and crafted White wine is also a celebrated feature of a East Coast Tassie visit.

Spring (September to November) and Autumn (March to May): Mild weather and fewer crowds, with stunning natural colors, wild coastal bush flowers bust into colour along the coastal shores. Surfing is still on! however pack your wetsuit, SUP Boarding and Kayaking are ideal at this time. The St Helens mountain bike trails are also in top notch condition. Check out some of the local craft beer options and street food at some of the many cafes, and restaurants in the area.

Winter (June to August): Cooler temperatures and occasional rain, but the landscapes are still beautiful and less crowded. Beach Combing, hiking. sitting around the fires pit toasting marshmallows or enjoying a glass of red wine and locally made cheese. Scallops and Oysters are in season and in their prime and can be found on menus or farmgate nearby.

What season do you like best? On the East Coast we love them all!
