The Walls of Jerusalem: Tasmania’s Alpine Heart
Scheduled Tours: November 6th - 8th 2023, December 14th -16th 2023, February 15th-17th 2024 and March 28th - 30th.
“The Walls” (as it is known by Tasmanians) is home to some of the very best mountain scenery in Australia. At its centre is a delicately beautiful plateau dotted with sparkling tarns and the ancient, endemic Pencil Pine (Anthrotaxis Cupressoides). Surrounding this are the titular walls: immense, sweeping slabs of Dolerite rock that guard the plateau like a walled city. Despite their imposing presence, the surrounding peaks reveal themselves to be a playground for the intrepid walker and offer an array of climbs and side trips to suit all abilities.
Our 3 day, 2 night itinerary showcases the best of this magical place, with a relaxed pace that’s perfect for first time walkers or those who really want to soak it in. The basecamp style of the walk allows you to enjoy Day 2 without the burden of a full pack and gives you the time to explore as much as your heart desires.
The price for this tour is $1200 per person.

Congratulations to everyone on the 6th of Feb Overland Trip! Getting the chance to climb both Cradle Mountain and Mount Ossa is pretty rare, getting every member of the group to the summit of both is unheard of. Well done!

Many Tasmanian bushwalkers consider February to April to be the best time of year for visiting our island's wild places. The end of summer brings stable weather, milder temperatures, crisp blue skies and stunning sunsets. Autumn sees the famous "turning of the Fagus" where the deciduous Nothofagus Gunnii create a golden spectacle in the alpine slopes.

Wilderness Expeditions has availability on the following guided tours:

Walls of Jerusalem: February 1st to 3rd
Overland Track: February 6th - 12th, March 7th - 13th and April 3rd to 9th.
Frenchmans Cap: March 29th to April 1st.

Frenchman’s Cap: wild rainforest, gnarled ridgelines, and colossal wall of rock.
March 29th – April 1st 2023
Frenchman’s Cap is one of Tasmania’s iconic peaks. Overlooking darkly sparkling tarns and almost entirely encircled by the legendary Franklin River, this behemoth of a mountain appears like a dome that has been cleaved in two. The summit is perched right on the edge of a monumental cliff face, which (depending on how it’s defined) might be the tallest in Australia. Looking up from below, it’s difficult for your eyes to make sense of what they’re seeing.
Our guided 4-day tour into Frenchman’s Cap samples everything that South-West Tasmania is famous for: sweeping buttongrass plains; wild, tannin-stained rivers; eucalypt woodlands; unique sub-alpine plants; twisted quartzite rock and ancient, moss-engulfed rainforest. The walk itself is a challenge with steep climbs, slow going through tangled roots and branches and a rocky scramble to the summit. This tour includes gear and meals (all food is carried and cooked by your guides) and is suitable for experienced walkers, or very fit and adventurous first timers. The price is $1800 per person.

One place has just become available on our Easter Overland Experience Tour leaving next week (April 15th - 21st)! April is one of the most spectacular times of year to walk the track, as the alpine slopes turn gorgeous shades of orange and red (thanks to Northofagus Gunnii, Australia's only true deciduous plant).
