Brand new - Sitatunga Private Island Camp
Brand new to the Okavango Delta in Botswana – Sitatunga Private Island Camp by Great Plains Conservation. Surrounded by water it’s a Robinson Crusoe take on an African safari, inspired by the ancient indigenous fishing communities of the area.
Built with no new cut wood (only recycled or reclaimed wood), with not a snip of plastic in sight, the exquisite luxury of this camps pushes the eco-design boundary in a remote region in Botswana in a way that few could imagine, let alone pull off!
It accommodates just 8 guests who can enjoy walking and slow safaris in a watery wonderland.

The Classic Safari Company is 30!
This year we celebrate our 30th anniversary. Since day dot we’ve always worked with small, owner operated outfitters where your feet are on the dirt and the experience is honest. We go where crowds don't. We revel in the remote.
Thirty years on and the words in this short video are as true now as they have ever been.
Thank you for joining us on our journey. Here's to the future.

Voice of the Rains
Rain has arrived in Zambia's South Luangwa and the park and its inhabitants are thriving in this beautiful season of plenty. Contrary to popular belief the wildlife doesn't vanish during the green season...just the other tourists!
.
"I am the rise and fall of the Luangwa River
The lifeblood of the valley
And I have a secret to share...
Watch life begin, babies being born
Leaves turning from brown to green
Here the rumble in the distance
While animals grow fat foraging on my feast
Feel my beating heart, the source of all that lives here
Under my eye pups grow and roam with their pack
This is the magic of the rains
Wake to the patter on fresh vibrant leaves
The chorus of a thousand frogs
The call of the fish eagle as it hunts in flight
I soak the ancient earth under your feet
As you explore areas others won’t tread
Together, we are pioneers
Be excited by fresh leopard tracks in soft soil
A flash of neon, further up high
The roar of a lion
Warm life falling from the sky
Face the stars and you will feel me,
I am the voice of the rains."

Rhino relocation in Zimbabwe
Pandemic or not, one of our favourite operators, Singita, is continuing to work tirelessly with their conservation partners The Malilangwe Trust and Gonarezhou Conservation to safeguard the wildlife in their regions. A recent translocation of black rhino from the Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve into Gonarezhou National Park will re-establish a new viable population in one of Zimbabwe’s least visited but most special wildlife regions. Translocating one-tonne-plus megaherbivores requires a carefully orchestrated operation between veterinary specialists, scouts, security personnel and pilots – its quite something! Watch and enjoy.
IWD 2021 - Women of Dunia, Tanzania
Today on International Women’s Day we’re shining a light on the remarkable all-female team at Dunia Camp in Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. These women do everything from guiding and housekeeping to vehicle repairs and security, smashing societal norms and inspiring others as they go. Hats off to you ladies - “There is nothing your fellow brother can do that you can’t”.

Water is the heartbeat of nature.
Water is returning after a unprecedented drought that swept Southern Africa and wildlife is celebrating this time of restoration. While you're away doing your bit for the global good, water is flooding back..bringing nature strength, power and life. When you return, African will be ready to welcome you in all her glory. 🎥: @africanbushcamps
The Why: Tourism, community and conservation are all interconnected
What is the value of a visitor?
Across Africa the simple presence of people in safari destinations deters illegal activity and almost every antipoaching effort is funded either directly or indirectly by tourism. Safari operators bring clinics and schools to underserviced regions as well as employment. In communities where as many as 10 people are dependent on one salaried family member, tourism is a life blood.
The global lockdown has ceased all tourism activity. Camps are empty, game viewing vehicles sit motionless and the majority of staff have been sent home. Our operators are continuing to pay their crews where they can but financial reserves will not last indefinitely and there is no government assistance.
The removal of tourism and its associated employment creates a perfect storm of impoverished communities and vulnerable wildlife. Within weeks forests will be felled for firewood; cultivation and grazing will spill into protected areas; antipoaching teams will stand down and desperate people will turn to bushmeat to feed their families. This is not poaching on a commercial scale, it is survival.
We’re sorry to bring you these tales of woe but we felt it was important to share the reality of a continent suffering at the hands of a pandemic which has barely touched its shores.
To try to help, we've identified a handful of foundations and projects which are making a huge difference and if you feel you would like to help, any assistance would be gratefully received by the teams on the ground. Click this link - https://www.classicsafaricompany.com.au/safari-blog/covid-19-heres-how-you-can-help - for more details or drop us a message and we'll send you the list.
Remember that in these regions a little goes a very long way.
Thank you for your kindness.
Take care and stay safe.

When we receive such joy from sharing African safari experiences with our clients and hear their wonderful stories, it becomes an absolute privilege to support the destinations and habitats from which we gain such pleasure.
Our continued support of Elephants for Africa is just one way we give back to the communities and fauna that make our business possible.
Huge thanks to Dr. Kate Evans for her incredible ongoing work in protecting and nurturing the elephant population of Botswana.
