Diwan Todar Mal, a wealthy Hindu merchant and devotee of Guru Gobind Singh, performed the cremation of the Sahibzaade and Mata Gujri. Wazir Khan allowed Todar Mal to perform the cremation if he paid for the land to be covered with gold coins. After the cremation, Wazir Khan executed Todar Mal.

The tragic event occurred when the two Sahibzaade were bricked alive into a wall. They were offered the choice to convert to Islam in exchange for their lives, but they refused. Their courage and sacrifice have been remembered as a symbol of unwavering faith and bravery.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji's mother, Mata Gujar Kaur Ji, achieved martyrdom in Sirhind shortly after hearing of the younger Sahibzade's sacrifice. She was imprisoned under harsh conditions and remained resolute in her faith.

The younger Sahibzaade (sons of Guru Gobind Singh), they were brought to Wazir Khan’s court in Lahore. At the age of just 9 and 7, the Sahibzaade, Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh, were presented in front of the Mughal governor, Wazir Khan, after being captured by the Mughal forces. They were tortured and asked to convert to Islam, but despite their young age, they remained steadfast in their faith. Their courage and refusal to renounce their Sikh beliefs made a lasting impact, symbolising the ultimate sacrifice and steadfastness of the Sikh community.

When Guru Ji arrived in the village of Khroond, he met Bibi Harsharan Kaur, a brave Amritdhari woman. She asked him about the Battle of Chamkaur, and Guru Ji shared the story of his Singhs' valiant sacrifice. Deeply moved, Bibi Ji decided to travel to Chamkaur to cremate the bodies of the Shaheeds. Disguising herself as a Muslim woman, she set out on her journey.

Reaching Chamkaur at night, Bibi Ji quietly began gathering the bodies of the fallen warriors. She easily identified the Sikh soldiers by their Bana and Dastaar. As she searched for her husband, Bhai Preetam Singh, doubt filled her heart. But when she found his body, her sorrow turned to joy, knowing he had died for the cause.

Bibi Ji offered an Ardas and began to cremate the Shaheeds. When Mughal soldiers saw the fire, they approached and questioned her. She boldly declared, “I am the daughter of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, and I have come to cremate my brothers.” The soldiers attempted to take the bodies, but Bibi Ji refused. In a fierce battle, she killed many soldiers before being captured. In a cruel act, they threw her into the fire, and Bibi Ji attained Shaheedi, joining the Guru in Sach Khand.

In the Battle of Chamkaur, forty valiant Sikhs stood firm, defying the might of a million Mughal fighters. With a daring tactic, five men fought at a time, creating an illusion of greater strength. The Mughals, and their allies, the Hill Rajas, were left uncertain, not knowing how many soldiers they truly faced. Were there more forces on the way? Perhaps a rescue was near? Panic and confusion reigned among them, as they camped far from the elevated fort where the Sikhs held their ground.

On the night of December 23, 1704, Bhai Daya Singh and Bhai Dharam Singh, two of the original Panj Piarey, stood strong with Bhai Maan Singh and other brave Singhs inside the Chamkaur fort. Only eleven warriors remained from the previous night, as the fighting paused with the fall of darkness. The Mughals regrouped, but the Sikhs used this time wisely, formulating a plan in the stillness of the night.

Among the remaining Singhs were Bhai Daya Singh, Bhai Dharam Singh, Bhai Maan Singh, Bhai Sangat Singh, Bhai Sant Singh, and six others. Five of them approached Guru Gobind Singh, pleading for his escape. “At Kesgarh Sahib,” they said, “we saw you call upon the five beloved ones for initiation into the Amrit. You declared, ‘I am of the Khalsa, and the Khalsa is mine.’ Today, as Khalsa, we ask you to leave Chamkaur and seek safety.”

Though reluctant, Guru Gobind Singh listened. It was decided: Guru Ji would escape with Bhai Maan Singh and the two Panj Piarey, while Bhai Sangat Singh, who bore a striking resemblance to the Guru, would be dressed as him. They killed the few guards on watch, and under the cover of darkness, Guru Ji called out “Sat Sri Akal,” sending the Mughals into confusion. Unable to see clearly, they turned on one another, mistakenly killing their own men as the Guru and his three companions slipped away.

The four Sikhs had agreed to meet at Machhiwara, twenty-seven kilometers away, should they become separated. Meanwhile, Bhai Sant Singh, Bhai Sangat Singh, and the others remaining in the fort struck fiercely at the enemy, sowing chaos and causing heavy losses.

The martyrdom of Sahibzada Baba Ajit Singh and Baba Jujhar Singh, the elder sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji attained martyrdom fighting valiantly in the Battle of Chamkaur. These brave young warriors, aged 18 and 14 respectively, attained martyrdom in December 1704 during the Battle of Chamkaur. Surrounded by a massive Mughal and hill chieftain army, they fought valiantly to defend the Sikh principles of justice and freedom. Despite their youth, they demonstrated unparalleled courage and faith, choosing to sacrifice their lives rather than compromise their ideals. Their martyrdom remains a source of inspiration for Sikhs worldwide.
