We are number two and proud of it

Did you know there’s another women only travel company in Australia - that’s bigger than us?

Yes: they’re called Sisterhood Women’s Travel

What we love about Sisterhood is that while they do their thing and we do ours, in the last 6 years we’ve never thrown shade at them. (And they’ve never thrown shade at us.)

In fact —-

- both companies are founded by women
- neither company has secretive ‘big money’ investors lurking in the background
- both companies have guests who are pretty stoked with the experiences on offer

Both of us have different styles of travel so we don’t see Sisterhood as competition .. rather we see them as cousins !

In fact: we regularly recommend Sisterhood to people when we think that their style is better suited to someone. If you want to experience the community of women’s travel but our trips are not to your taste, Sisterhood’s trips really do look like a lot of fun.

Competition doesn’t have to be cloaks and daggers. It can also happen with mutual respect.

Go to Saudi Arabia...? 'NO WAY'!

At least this is the automatic reaction of many people we speak with.

And it was also OUR reaction, too, let's be honest. A women only travel company.. going to Saudi Arabia… ? It's just not a sentence you'd expect to read.

We're not going to pretend Saudi Arabia has a spotless past. Like many destinations our Patchies visit (Egypt, Iran, Tajikistan come to mind), the Saudi government has a rep.

But then, after years of Patchies asking, we started looking into this historic but controversial country.

Sure, Saudi is opening up, but is it worth visiting? What do you think? Would you go there?

This is our fourth trip to India this year, and guess what? We’ve already planned another four for 2025 — most of them are already booked out! 🗓️🇮🇳

Check out our Patchies absolutely living it up on their Silk Road adventure! This trip’s been way more than just ticking off the sights – it’s been about music, dancing, hanging out with the locals, sharing delish food, and soaking in the unique vibes of each of the ‘Stans’. Every spot’s got its own charm, from the culture to the landscapes.

And yes, this bunch reckons they’re the ‘best group ever’... They are pretty cool, right - should we let them have it?!😄

So here's what we've been up to lately:

🇬🇷 Our Greece group just wrapped up a lovely adventure
🇲🇳 The Mongolia Horse Festival group is in full swing
🕌 Our Silk Road Patchies are on the move as well
🚂 And we've got not one, but TWO groups riding the rails in the Balkans

Our Patchies are discovering the 🌍 together with our epic local teams and we can't be happier to see them SMILE and enjoy their adventures - the Patchie way!

Now this is what we call a proper adventure! Check out the smiles on our Patchies in Mongolia.

On day 2, they hit up Terelj National Park. And yep, they couldn't miss the iconic 'Turtle Rock' (as if you'd skip that!) But the real fun kicked off once they got away from the crowds. They were paddling down the Tuul River in inflatable kayaks. How’s that for a Thursday afternoon?

PS 1: Our Mongolian guide Tulgaa is a legend.
PS 2: Our 2025 Mongolia dates are nearly all booked out! 😲

Want to know something surprising about running a travel company like ours?

It's Mat here, part of the Patch team.

When Rebeca started Patch, we were confident that suppliers would be so happy and stoked to receive bookings from groups like ours.

But you know something weird?

That's actually not always the case.

Hotels and restaurants in high tourism areas? They're not particularly excited about us because our groups are 'small'.

And the off the beaten places? Well, many of them are also not that excited to work with us.. because our groups are too big!!

Let's explain why.

If you run a small venue and get a booking for 12 people, you'd think that this would be a good thing, right?

However, many travel companies make bookings and then cancel them later. Or even worse, are complete no-shows.

Which means that a small hotel might lose 3 nights of revenue.

Or a small restaurant suddenly finds themselves empty that night. In the middle of high season.

This is why people, more often than you'd think, aren't that excited to get our business.

In some cases, we just need to accept our lot and use a mid-sized hotel or restaurant.

In other cases, we need to pre-pay many months in advance. (We've already paid some hotels for bookings in September and October 2025.. and that is not a typo!)

In other cases, we have to do some work to build a relationship and convince them that we're actually legit.

And then another thing we have to overcome is the Australian/NZ reputation for not being tippers. We've had more than one conversation where we've promised people black and blue that our groups are not like 'those' Aussies or Kiwis. This is why we brought in the tip kitty, to help avoid confusion around expectations.

In the end, the work turns out to be worth it. Just look at this pic below from the Silk Road last year. Lots of happy, smiling faces
