Lately, I’ve had a few conversations about travel that made me realize many people don’t fully understand the value of booking with a Travel Agent. So, before you plan your next trip, here’s what you might not know and why it matters.

🏡 Travel Agents Are Small Businesses

Most Travel Agents are small business owners, either working independently (like me) or within a franchise owned by someone who is also actively involved in the business. This doesn’t always apply to large retail chains.

All Travel Agents under TravelManagers are independent professionals running their own businesses. When you book your holiday with me your also helping me buy kids footy boots or pay for swimming lessons not some big company who doesn't care.

🌍 When You Book Online, You’re Supporting Big Business Not People

Booking directly through cruise lines, hotel aggregators, or airlines means you’re handing commission,money that could support small businesses right back to corporate giants.

When you book through a Travel Agent:
✅ You support a real person who genuinely cares about your trip.
✅ You gain peace of mind knowing that if something goes wrong, you have someone in your corner to help.
✅ You often get access to better deals, exclusive perks, and added valuethings you might not even know exist!
✅ Insider knowledge on insurance, visas, must-see attractions, restaurants, and local tips.

✈️ Why Do Travel Agents Charge a Booking Fee?

Most airlines no longer pay commissions, which means we charge a small booking fee to cover the hours spent researching the best options. But here’s the thing: this service often saves you money in the long run.

💡 A recent client paid a $100 booking fee for international flights, and I still saved them $1,000 compared to what they found online. That’s a great return on investment!

You could make coffee at home for less, but you still go to a café for the quality and convenience. You could cut your own hair, but you trust a hairdresser to do it right. You could file your own taxes, but you rely on an accountant for their expertise.

The moral of the story? You can book travel yourself, but a Travel Agent provides expert guidance, insider deals, and peace of mind—ensuring a seamless, stress-free experience.

It’s so interesting when you have history with a place - you get to experience it in its various incarnations - the things that stay the same, change, evolve and progress over time.

A quick trip to my childhood home, Cairns, to connect with loved ones and explore with my adult daughter provided such an opportunity.

It’s a special thing to traverse old and weathered, familiar paths, through fresh eyes👀 .

🤔 And whether it’s the place that’s changed, or us, or both… to experience the depth of time, anew, with an open heart and mind, is one of the great joys of travel. 🙏🌏
