My Dream
My dream is to work with people who are serious about performance to build mental toughness, enhance the quality of their experience in training and performance, and to improve their wellbeing. My Training
I was trained at top Australian universities in the science of the human mind and behaviour, undertaking my undergraduate and honours year in psychology at the University of New South
Wales and my Masters in Sport and Exercise Psychology at the University of Queensland. I now work in Brisbane and the Gold Coast as a Sport and Performance Psychologist. My Work
I have worked with both groups and individuals in a diverse set of support roles. As an educator I have tutored and guest lectured at the University of Sunshine Coast and the University of Queensland. I work as a therapist and counsellor in private practice, supporting people with anxiety and depression. I also work as a wellbeing consultant for the AFL Player Association, supporting AFL players and their families; previously, I was an Approved Provider of psychological services for the Queensland Academy of Sport. I work with amateur and professional performers of all ages, in both the sporting and music fields, and feel comfortable with children and people of diverse backgrounds. sport psychologist Brisbane and Gold Coast
I also feel comfortable presenting to and engaging with groups of all sizes and demographics. When working one-on-one I aim to provide individuals with a safe and comfortable environment to discuss their lives and to cope with and manage challenges of the mind and of circumstance that are affecting performance. I can assess and treat depression and anxiety related symptoms that affect many people during their lives. I also help people with interpersonal issues and critical events that cause stress on their performance world. However as a Performance Psychologist, I believe that my biggest strength is in building positives rather than focusing on deficits and symptoms. You don’t require a problem to gather valuable information and learn positive ways to manage your mind and reach your peak. My Personal Experience
I have personal history and experience in sport and music, having played and coached Ultimate Frisbee at the highest level, representing Australia at World Championships for over 10 years. I enjoy the experiential qualities of performance and the connection with the environment and people when we achieve flow, or get into the zone. Personally I love the outdoors, especially mountain and ocean sports such as snowboarding. I love music and live performance and am involved with professional music and performance. My Approach
I take a client-focused Positive Psychology approach to engaging with Performance Psychology. My toolkit is made up of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness-based therapy, Counselling and my own life experiences and beliefs about human performance. This makes up the science and art of what I do. I like to help people see themselves and their performance world in a new way, and challenge old stale ways of thinking and behaving that limit potential. I have my own philosophies about Performance Psychology that come from both science and my personal experience and I welcome you to read more from my topics of interest blog. Most important to everything we do in life is to find meaning and happiness in-between the successes and failures. If you would like to find out more, contact Summit Performance Psychology today.
