Do you know what mammal is responsible for the largest mass migration in Australia? 🦇
At the Daintree River, depending upon the time of the year (and perhaps not every year) you may see a camp of Little Red Flying Foxes; which are indeed mammals, roosting in the trees adjacent to the Daintree River.
This camp will have ten of thousands, and possibly hundreds of thousands of flying foxes and when they take off en masse at sunset, and if you are fortunate enough to witness this, I guarantee you it will be an experience that you will never forget!

When we launched our first Self Drive Audio Guide App for the Daintree National Park we presented it to the Director of Tropical North Queensland Tourism who very quickly told us that we were about to disrupt the (Daintree National Park) conventional tour guide industry.
He was dead right.
And yes, we have!
When you develop world class, first of it's kind technology, (in any industry) in Australia, it's bound to grab people's attention.
But we're not worried about who we are distrupting. We are more concerned about our who just want to explore our iconic National Parks in their own vehicles, in their own time and follow an itinerary of their own choice.

The Eastern Spinebill is a commonly observed bird in the Eucalypt forests in Girraween National Park.
It's elongated and slightly curved beak allows it to probe deeply into flowers and feed on the energy rich nectar.
On your next hike, look for these energetic birds as they dart between the large lemon yellow flowers of the Banksias, that are found throughout the Park.

The Superb Lyrebird that can be found in Girraween National Park, is a master of mimicry and has been recorded imitating man made sounds such as camera shutters, chainsaws and even car alarms.
But none of these amazing impersonations even come close to this example from a Lyrebird in Taronga Zoo that is mimicking the Evacuate Now ⚠️ and Siren📢 after hearing it recently, after the lions escaped their enclosures!
Now, if you were a visitor to the Zoo and knowing the recent (🦁 escape) history... would this get your attention?

Hiking in the rain can often lead to unexpected surprises...
Girraween National Park is full of wildlife and the most noticeable are the Eastern Kangaroos that are regularly seen in the open areas near the campsites of the Bald Rock Creek Camping area.
Even though they are wild animals they have grown accustomed to humans and you can find them grazing on the short grass that is regularly mowed, adjacent to the campgrounds.
So even if it is raining, don't despair; there is still so much to see in Girraween National Park and you might just come across these beautiful animals.

How crazy is this?
A man got the fright of his life last night, after putting the lid down on his toilet, before flushing it.
He'd sat this close... to a snake.
Stuart McKenzie from Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 shared this cracker of a photo, saying that although the man knew the carpet python was harmless, he was 'a bit shaken' when he called for help.
"A lot of people have been commenting, saying they reckon it can't be a true story because men never put the toilet seat down," Mr McKenzie laughed.
"Just shows snakes want nothing to do with us! Will even stay curled up whilst you are on the toilet next to them!" 🤣
The python was safely relocated.

Unfortunately our National Parks do not contain only Native Australian Animals. There have been species of animals, like the European Red Fox that were introduced into this country for sport, and have since been declared a #pestspecies that has devastated our biodiversity and contributed to the regional extinction of several species of small mammals and ground nesting birds. This one, despite suffering from a severe case of #sarcopticmange was scavenging for food and perhaps due to its illness or hunger, was fairly unconcerned about my presence.
